vRay Sun or vRay Dome for Interior Scenes

Hi,

 

Whilst following lighting tutorials for interior scenes, I have noticed that some people use vRay Sun whilst others prefer vRay Dome.

 

My questions are,

1. is this just a personal preference to lighting choice?
   
2. Can same results be achieved by either light?
   
3. Are there advantages/disadvantages between the two?

Personal preference.

 

If I want sunlight streaming through the windows I'll use the VRay Sun. If I want to achieve a more overcast look, or perhaps dusk, etc then I will opt for the VRay Dome Light.

Thanks for the reply Chris! Do Skylight Portals work with vRay Dome lights? Or they designed for vRay Sun and Sky?

Yes as far as I am aware they work with dome lights.
