Hi everyone, I am quite new to 3ds Max and I am having a problem with my render setup.

For some reason there are this weird lightspots appearing on my materials and I have searched and searched for solutions, and maybe I am just not understanding the solutions. but if anyone could help me i would be thankfull.

I tried to apply a new material, like a standart arch&design with no alteration, turning off the lights, changing the type of exposure, hiding some of the objects in the scene to see if it was some bad mesh that was causing a wrong diffusion of light. nothing seems to work.

This is a screenshot of my work

Just to clarify,

In Mental Ray, for some stupid reason, they named GI to Photon mapping.

Photon mapping is a method to produce GI (Global illumination), it is not the same, but it is related.

What I meant with my comment is, if you are only using Final Gather as GI method, you need to give some bounces. now from your screen shot you have 0 bounces, this mean Final Gather is doing nothing.

Reset all mental Ray values, switch the render engine to scanline and then back to Mental Ray, and click render, you should have a better image right away.

If you don't want to use IBL (recommended) then switch to Skylight from Final Gather and give 3 or 4 bounces to start.

for final image depending of your final output size, you need to increase your preset from low to medium or high.
