How do you you 3d model?

I'm learning autocad and 3d studio max at the moment. I would like to know which of these programs is used to make a 3d model. If you have a groundplan drawn in autocad, do you make a 3d model also in autocad and use 3d studio max to do the mapping and rendering, or do you export the groundplan to 3d studio max and go from there?

{both programs can be used to make models, it is up to you which one you prefered. but for me i used autocadd on most of my modeling, but there are more advanced features on 3dmax that autocadd dont have. so on some complicated models i used max.
