Freelance Arch Viz Accounting Software

Hey All,

I work full time at a design/build firm and want to start up my own freelance illustration business on the side (yes, I am already approved by my office to do this kind of work on the side).

I searched through some threads but can't find anything too recent on this subject. I'm just wondering what people use for accounting software, taxes, etc. At this point I am a single person operation with a registered LLC. My two contending options are WaveApps or QuickBooks Online. I realize there are a gazillion options out there, so just trying to narrow it down as much as possible.

Anyone else in a similar position - what do you use? Thanks!

My business is a corporation, and as such, has to be audited annually by a CPA and file a business return. So it makes sense to ask your accountant how to structure your records to minimize the (otherwise expensive) yearly tax work.

Once you have a business bank account, it's all pretty straightforward. You use your company bank card to buy stuff, pay bills and your personal for non-business things. Then all activity in your business account is business and reported in your statements. Check with your bank about what forms of spreadsheet files they will give you.

Good luck with the new venture. Don't forget to learn about sales tax in your state.

If you're a sole proprietor Schedule C filer it's going to be very simple. Your income is listed on your 1099s at the end of the year and having a business card/account keeps tracks of everything which is pretty minimal for what we do. I use Turbo Tax with no problems for filing.
