Can you use an HDRI map in Vray Basic? There is not an HDRI material, is there another way to use it effectively?

You can use HDRI lighting in standard Max since release 5 at least. Why use Vray Basic?

actually until version 6 you needed a plugin to have max loading a radiance image file. anyway, you won't need a hdr material to use a hdr image in a scene. usually these kind of images are used as reflection maps or directely as source of light through an environmental light (skylight in brazil, envirnment in vray and so on).
