Shadow & Lighting problem

I am using 3ds max 2012 with vray rendering and vray physical camera with vray sun. I also use an big half cylinder (with no caps) with a sky map on it for reflections on windows.

When I render a scene of an exterior building I get uneven lighting and shadow problems as in the photo attached. The upper part of the building is too dark and the parts that are extruded dont have proper shadows.

How can I solve this problem?

Hi,

I am not quite sure what you are asking but may be try changing the lighting angle and check if the reflection plane does not cast shadows.

Another check would be to reduce the AO radius in the indirect illumination.

Another check would be to check the places where it is getting dark for overlapping objects.

Pretty sure it's because you've got the sun pretty much straight above - you wouldn't see the edges of the shadows from that perspective.

[edit] Just spotted you've got your shadow bias set to half a metre, which is a LUDICROUSLY high setting. Set it to zero. Why did you change it?
