  1. I'd go for Photoshop if its a still. very easy and very quick, and can be changed at any time.
  2. Fake it! If its a still, just paint some highlights with the gradient tool in PS, from black to white with a screen mode (or middle grey to white with an overlay mode). Give it a try. Make a new layer, mask the hood with the lasso tool and drop a few brush strokes. If you wanna fake it in 3d, then just add a reflector: Either a plane with also a gradient ramp as texture (black to white). Position it right above the hood or wherever u think it fits. Right click on the object, Object properties>Not visible to camera, and uncheck casts shadow. If you're using vray, you can do the same with a vray light which u can also assign a texture map, make it invisible, and in the include/exclude list, include only the hood. Use Max's Place Highlight tool to position your light for you so highlights bounce into your cam. You can also use a standard max light with the Place highlight tool, and have it only affect specular. Include only the hood in the include/exclude list (Given that your hood material has highlight glossiness or some form of glossiness to it) Hope that helps
  3. Don't complicate things. This can simply be done with a standard material. If this is what you're looking for, then just download the attached zip file. Its a material library with 2 mats: one with double sided enabled and one disabled (u can either see or not see the backface of the object). Assign it to whatever objects u have and render. No need for any lighting whatsoever. Use the default lights if needed. One last touch would be to add a very very subtle glow in PS or AE (After effects). Hope that helps

  6. Hey Ihabkal, I would go with most people's opinion of not doing it. 1500$ / min for six minutes, that's 9,000$. U'll need quite a few artists to help you out in such an endeavour. Let's say you have 3 months to complete this and do some quick calculations. 3 artists beside you on the project, juniors maybe. I know for a fact that you can pay them between 800$ and 1000$ / month. That's 3 x 1000$ = 3000$ / artist for the job, that's 3000$ x 3 = 9000$ for artists. Add to that, your expenses. Do you have enough machines for your artists? Do you have a render farm or will you be renting one? You'll be calling the client a lot of time (international calls). Electricity, All nighters, etc.... Already at this stage you've spent at least 3-4K$ out of your pocket. Excuse my question, but how is this helping you pay your debts? I know the market here, i've been doing this for over 10 years now (although we've branched out into VFX more now). I used to take 100-200$ per view 10 years ago. Now i don't take anything for less than 4K$, not for a view, but 4K$ is what we need to start a project, at least for middle eastern clients because they're such time wasters. They drag you for weeks as if time was free. They have no concept of the value of time. A simple rule to quote a project: How much is your day / hour worth? Multiply it by number of hours/ days to complete the project and you've got yourself a number! Sometimes you need to buffer that time a bit because you know it will drag, sometimes you can cut down a bit. Of course if you have a team helping you, you need to value their time as well and add it. There are still a lot of people in this region and especially in lebanon who are willing to pitch for peanuts in such projects with big hopes such as "at least we're opening a door for bigger projects, the next one will pay off". If you're charging 1,500$ / min on this one, there's no way you charge 15K$ on the next project. I mean you can but you won't get it. Sorry for the long speech, but take it from a fellow compatriot, learn to say NO. Cheers
  7. Damn! How did i miss the flying lounge and mag rack? wasteland giant: The scene is part of a bigger model with the full exterior. And since it's a snow scene its kinda overexposed outside, but yes it does look weird. Regarding the woman's shadow, i think it would be better without it. An object close to a shadow receiving surface will always have sharp shadows from the sun. Softer shadows appear only when the object is farther than the surface. So it is a correct shadow but maybe not that appealing. Strat: Gosh it's been that long mate. First encounter you were barely in your thirties Can't believe i stayed 2 years in london and never got in contact with you. Been quite a hectic few years. But i got my own business now, and getting married in 2 months. How've you been? Thanks all
