  1. Not it Editable Poly mode. Yet you can put an Editable Mesh modifier on top and hide the edges.
  2. Agree with Scott, and on top of it, I recommend a very useful script called Relink Bitmaps. You can find it here. Use it on every scene to be referenced before referencing.
  3. You can open a DWG natively in Illustrator. All you have to check is what version of AutoCAD will open in your version of AI. You will have to downgrade your CAD file to the right core version (2013, 2010, 2007). Most likely, 2007 will open just fine. About the main topic, you can do this kind of plans and elevations in Sketchup / Layout with shadows and all. Good luck.
  4. That would be a major overlook IMO. I've been using this system for quite some time with good results. I didn't know about this. Have I just been lucky when matching my daylight to photos all this time? I definitely want to know more. EDIT: Ok, I've always done my daylight from scratch. I understand your point. I should try in an old scene and see what happens.
  5. In EPoly mode you cannot delete / hide these edges; not AFAIK. You can minimize the effect by cutting around the wall whether above or below the window opening and then you can delete the edges you currently have.
  6. Make sure your SU geometry is tight and solid. I suggest a plugin called Solid Inspector by Thom Thom (great plugin). Nonetheless you might get un-welded vertices. As a rule of thumb, every time I import SU in Max, I convert everything to EPoly and upon first selection for each object I weld vertices and clear smoothing groups where necessary. Takes only a few seconds.
  7. Just in case: Time Zone correctly set? It has happened to me.
  8. I remember a few years back a three way pack that was offered in Latin America: AllPlan as the BIM base, Cinema4D for all other modeling and for rendering and Opus AEC (mexican great stuff) for cost and planning management. The beauty of this is that building information could be updated pretty much dynamically between the apps. However, only C4D stood the fight in the 3d field, Opus is still the strong one and it is made to run independently and AllPlan kinda lost the battle among the BIM's. The pack wasn't cheap but yet far less expensive than any Autodesk solution. ArchiCAD has been ringing my bells for quite a while. Worth taking a look at.
  9. I read the article and saw the photos. Looks like a really cool house; so bad it has these ugly interiors.
  10. You guys are wrong. This kid will be a monk. His room will serve the purpose of getting him used to a cryptic room. ha ha. Let's hope he/she is no claustrophobic.
  11. Ahhh ! that. Yes, I've seen strange things happen when opening an older version in a newer one. Glad it helped.
  12. Following up post #25: Installed OpenCollada plugin. Exported selected objects in my model. Opened a fresh SU file: -Position of all objects was correct. -Materials present (no bitmaps, but I checked off "Copy image" in the OpenCollada export dialog). -All the model came as one group. Inside it, all the pieces could be selected individually by triple clicking even if they were touching (weird). -Re-creating each group is necessary (buuuaaaaa!!!) No happy altogether method yet.
  13. Indeed, this worked for correcting objects position. All materials gone though. Still, there is a drawback: Max instances will be moved to the origin of the original instance and so it will be imported into SU, no matter if the DWG and the new MAX files show them up correctly positioned. It might as well come to a "kill instance / export / undo kill instance" action. Thanks Juan, it helped. I had already noticed that the 2007 export filters worked and the newest didn't; yet, it's still a bit annoying; I'll try OpenCollada and report back.
  14. Try the tweaks I suggested. I've got rid of stuff like that this way.
