  1. No, if you see the video links you can watch Max running the Caustic Visualizer. It is also mentioned on the Caustic site, aside from several press releases on Caustic and Imagination technologies websites. Caustic Visualizer in Max is much more flexible than Quicksilver and Vray RT. Check out the videos to see. No waiting or special scene export or file types. Just open your max file and go--all interactive even while objects are animated, translated, modified--even on the vertex level.
  2. I didn't see any news items on this, so I thought I would post. Lemme know if I missed an article! https://www.caustic.com/visualizer/index.html Works with standard max and maya shaders, mental ray shaders, and hopefully more. Also in Rhino. If people are interested, lobby for V-Ray support in Max and Maya too!
  3. Network rendering .exr with max 2011 on Windows 7 does not keep the .exr settings I save when setting the file up. No extra channels at this point--just half-float zip compression wanted instead of full float renders. I have tried copying the .exr .CFG files to render nodes in the local user settings, and also setting .exr options manually by opening max on render machines, but nothing works. Anyone have a fix of this? Thanks, Nick
  4. Glad you guys took a try at rendering the scene. A critique I have is the images from mr seem washed out and over-averaged--too little contrast. It is true the image at the end of the tutorial is a balance of a "decent" render in a short amount of time. It could be polished more with a few setting increases and a bit more render time. Anyway, good photon fun. Cheers, NN
  5. You are correct, sir. I hope to be there, but we'll see--I might have to be working, but I'll give you guys a call if I am around. Nick
  6. Yes, I made this, but I still think it might be of use to some people. You can find it here: http://www.splutterfish.com/sf/sf_gen_page.php3?printer=1&page=contrib/tutorials/pixelforge_photons/_contents/index It works with Splutterfish's free Brazil version, Rio. It has a start .max file and very detailed info on using global photons in Brazil/Rio. N
  7. Looks like Brazil will be working with Rhino at SIGGRAPH. http://news2.mcneel.com/scripts/dnewsweb.exe?cmd=article&group=rhino&item=173420&utag= From the Brazil board: "The Rhino guys already made an announcment on their mailing list that they're going to be showing Brazil in Rhino at this year's siggraph." Attached is a rhino logo... "(and no, that wasn't rendered in max)"
  8. We had to remodel and/or fix just about everything. And yes--the high-poly counts were challenging, but we optimized most shots to run without any kind of archiving or caching.
  9. http://www4.discreet.com/company/press.php?id=739 Maybe the fishes will come out with a press release too--dunno. Interesting reading either way, not to mention FX. Cheers Nakadate
  10. Just a few images I have made with Brazil toon that I like to think approach some sketch and architectural render styles; still WIP. Nick
  11. Um... You might replace "final render stage 1" with Brazil r/s. Does anyone even use FR anymore? Oh, in case you missed it: http://www.splutterfish.com/sf/sf_gen_page.php3?printer=1&page=ArtistSpot/Orphanage/Orphanage NN
  12. http://www.splutterfish.com/sf/sf_gen_page.php3?printer=1&page=ArtistSpot/Orphanage/Orphanage Muy Interesante. Some cool work there--high res pics too. Nick
