  1. Hello Everyone, I recently came across a situation while using VRAY 1.5. When rendering files sized 1gb+ on machine: Ram:12gb, CPU - i7, 322ghz It slows down like anything. 10 hours to reach 1/4th of prepass 3 of 3. Observation: High Disk I/O, reading and writing 3ds max temp files, Low CPU Usage(only 1-10%), High Memory(95%) This makes the render times go upto 10h where as on render servers with 32gb ram and 16core CPU, it renders in 1h. Looking at the computer specifications, A guess of rendering time on server vs machine would be a straight double. But this is 10 times high! What would possibly be the reason for such slow down? Thanks in advance.
  2. Hello Everyone, I am now about to render a walkthrough so I was just wondering as to what should be the per frame rendering time with vray and its a interior scene. Semi-Photoreal. Day light scene.

    Walkthrough Issues

Thankyou all for replying to this thread. Well I used xref to make the scene lighter and now the problem that I am facing is that once i re-open the file, The x-refs fly in the air...
  5. @ Peter : Well thats absolutely what I do for stills... The best way to do landscaping. @ Carlos : Well I actually dont want to spend money on plugins as every plugin that i see is nothing less than $300-$400, so I am actually looking out for some other solutions. I would be downloading som free smaples though and if any help needed, Would definitely contact you. Thankyou.
  6. Hey Travis, Thankyou for replying, Will give a try to use proxies and onyx too.. Well I have an I5 with 4gigs of ram and 1 gig of graphics card and xp x64. So I guess it wont create a problem. Is it also advisable to use onyx for animations??

    Walkthrough Issues

Hey Tom, Umm actually I thought that I would try that, but what happens is that once i enter the house, i need the passage and living room and then a little part of kitchen too. so its like i need atleast 3 rooms together. Also what I wanted to ask you is that how do I go about Lighting. Is there a way where, if i make all the rooms in separate file, and do the lighting separately, once i merge them , I wont have to do any changes. Or then should i just merge the rooms and do the lighting part.
  8. Hello Everyone, I just took a plan and started constructing in 3d. Now I have made all the rooms and they are all in separate files. They are textured and lit. Put lots of accessories. Now I would like to make a walkthrough. I tried merging 3 rooms(3 files) together and the file size has cranked upto 300mb. And as they had been already lit in a little different way, the problem after merging the file was that The Lighting had to be redone. I am wondering, what the best way is to make a walkthrough as I have about 5+ rooms with bathroom and all... So how do I go about merging files so that the file size does not go up way too high. Thankyou.
  9. Hello Everyone, I recently have been working on landscaping, which is a simple one where i have to pt trees and bushes and plants, etc... I made row houses and now I would like to show some park area and would like to put trees. Can you suggest what I need to do as I am using 3ds max and vray and I need to put plants. By plants, I mean not 10-20 but about 50-60 plants, trees bushes etc.. I would not be buying rpc's so I need some help as to whats the next best alternative... I have seen that Evermotion's trees have a high poly count... I need suggestions as to whats the best I can do ... If i need to use evermotion's trees then some suggestions from you would also be helpful. Thank You
  10. Hi Maxer, The AA Settings: AA=1 NoiseThreshold=.005 Min smaples = 5 Gloal subdivs mult=1 Time-independent = checked. My lights already have the subdivs cranked up to 20 and the render comes out noiseless only problem comes with is the skirting.
  11. Hello Everyone, I have been trying to render out an interior scene with vray1.5 sp4 and max 2009. recently I added a skirting on the ceiling and when rendered, found out that the lines are not visible properly. Also, I have made a cross-section in splines and used a loft to cover the whole room. I used the settings attached in the image files. I used interpolation samples to 30 and hsp 50 but did not get the right result and cranked them high but the result is blurred. Also, I then used brute force, with 40subdivs. rendering time first was 4.5 mins which went to 30mins. Please suggest me what to do to get the skirting right. Thank You Videep
  12. Hi Andrew, Actually i am not worried about how it looks in the render, but how it looks in the material editor slot... If you take a new vray material and copy diff from evermotion's material and opacity map respectively, you would see for yourself that evermotions material will show a glow even in the material editor but your material wont... That's what i am wondering Evermotion's material is showing a glow in the material editor slot and when i copy exactly samething into the new vraymtl, my material shows something else.. Try it for yourself...
  13. Hi Jon, Thankyou for your help, But I am not exactly looking to replicate the material to use it in my scene but I wanted to Know how they did it... I guess a new method or something strange which I dont know... Just looking to enhance my knowledge...
  14. Hello Everyone, I was just trying to make a shader for a candle which i saw in the evermotion archinteriors vol 11. I just saw 2 maps plugged in one in diffuse and other in opacity. Some changes in reflect and refract interpolation. I took the vraymtl and tried to plug in the same maps but there is a glow that is visible in archinteriors material which I am not ale to get.. I am just trying to find out what I am missing. Please help... Attaching the evermotion material file and my new mtl file. What i have been doing is 1. take a vraymtl 2. copy diffuse frm material to my new vraymtl . 3. copy opacity frm material to my new vraymtl . 4. Change reflect and refract interpolation.. Please help me to get the settings right... Thankyou..
  15. Hello Everyone, Actually this is quite dumb, but may be I shall improve... After working for some time on vray, reading pdf's and getting to know the basics clear, I have seen that if a person renders something that is photo-real, he would tweak the same settings that even I can. . . So this time rather than asking about what settings to keep to take out good renders, I would like to know What I should keep in mind while creating Photo-Real Renders... Would just like to know if the modeling needs more of attention or may be textures what is it that is so important or may be which is so responsible that makes the render a non-photoreal or photo-real... Thankyou...
