TJunkers
I created a scene that has about 50 lights lighting up the scene. There is no environment map as it is completely indoors with no windows. My rendering times are horrendous! What are some tips or tricks you have that may help me out? I need my settings to stay decently high so I don't have a lot of noise! Right now, a 640 x 360 render is taking over 22 minutes! And I have about 600 frames to render!!! alias_marks
might help if you can throw up a screen grab of the settings your using...
TJunkers
Was actually just doing that. I use SolidRock which may explain some of the weird numbers, but I need to know if there is anything more to the render settings or the lights themselves! http://www.tjunkers.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/V-Ray-Settings1.jpg
carlotristan3d
Try increasing your AA clr treshold.
alias_marks
yea, those are some odd numbers there Might try doing your Irr Map at something like medium 50/40 samples respectively. Probably makes most sense to precalc your Irr Map and Light cache before hand if your doing an animation. Do you have a lot of proxies in your scene? I had a problem recently where I was rendering a ton of proxies and bumping up the Dynamic memory limit to whatever ram I had available helped a ton. like instead of 400 use 6000 or something... Haven't tested this, but just from my experience... might be something to try. I'd ditch the AA filter too and soften in post if you need to. Haven't heard of Solid Rock, will have to look that one up Best of Luck, and hopefully you'll get some other tips from other users too..
Crazy Homeless Guy
I don't know if the DMC Sampler is used in other ways when it is unchecked at the Adaptive DMC Sampler box, but 213 min samples is crazy high. ....at this point I would set your engine to mr, then set it back to Vray. That should reset all of the settings. Then turn on GI with irradiance particles set as primary and light cache as secondary. Set the irradiance particles to low or medium and hit render. Work from there. The settings are so weird that I can't make heads or tails of them. Also, how many subdivisions on the lights, and how glossy are your reflections? Those both have huge time impacts. ...and the global subdivision multiplier set to 6! Whoa Nelly. Leave that puppy at 1 and control it by adjusting the individual settings. TJunkers
Thanks, I am going to reset all the settings back and go from there. SolidRock is a cool program for certain renders, but in this case its weird! As for the Dynamic Memory limit, where can I go to change this? I have a ton of ram in my tower and would love to use it better!
alias_marks
you'll find it under the vray system roll out.
TJunkers
Also, how many subdivisions on the lights, and how glossy are your reflections? Those both have huge time impacts. I have them pretty low, they are either 8 or 16, but the majority are 8.
TJunkers
Thanks! Also how do I precalc the irrandience map and light cache for an animation, the same as a still would be?
alias_marks
Thanks! Also how do I precalc the irrandience map and light cache for an animation, the same as a still would be? Unfortunately not the same as a still image. Should be just as easy if you ask my opinion It's more complex than it should be and I couldn't capture all the details in one post. I'd recommend either searching the forums for a comprehensive breakdown/link... Or I would definitely recommend Chris Nichols' second dvd. That's the one that really drove it home for me when I was trying to figure it out.
F J
i dont think u need that many DMC max subdivs, cut it in half n see what u get.. u can also cut the Light Cache passes in half (unless ur system is a dual quad-core).. n since u'r doing animation u might wanna change Light Cache scale from Screen to World in order to avoid pixel swimming..
