kbeck199
I've tried for several days nows trying to get glass right in Mental Ray, I finally found that I have been using the wrong process and need to be using a Dielectric Material surface shader. When I search for the process I understand how to get to it, but it doesn't exist in the places where everybody is telling me to go. I use 3ds max 2012 and was wondering if anyone else has had the same issue. Thank you!
pixelperfectg
I can't think of any benefit to using that rather dated shader over any of the more current glass options available (lot's of them). I believe that specific shader was hidden in newer versions of 3ds Max for this reason. If you must use it you can either save it from an older version of 3ds Max (to a .mat file), or unhide it in 2012 by editing whichever .mi file it's stored in. Justin Hunt
Simplest is to use the Arch&Design Glass presets jhv
