Krisztian Gulyas
Im using AEC wall in my scene but if i put a door or window in it, the wall remains there. theres no opening in the wall. what could be the problem? thanks
Peter M. Gruhn
Does the door/window look correct? I ask because I always have to train myself to click the points in the right order. Making a door is, for me, counter-intuitive. Another possible issue might be snaps. I don't remember if getting near enough works or if you want to turn on edge snap to make sure the openings are created exactly on the wall faces. Krisztian Gulyas
Yes, they look correct... but maybe I messed up the order. I didn't even think of that . Snaps are on. I don't think that is the problem now.
Krisztian Gulyas
I dont know what did I do, but it's working now. Thanks for replying.
datacrasher
sometimes max cuts into the wall and sometimes you have to use the link and select tool to link the window to the wall etc
Krisztian Gulyas
Thanks Tony. This is the first time I had this problem, so I had no idea what to do.
datacrasher
yes there are tons of problem when you use stuff for the first time Krisztian but once you get used to it then it's not a problem anymore
nkhn
Incidentally, you should have a fair number of segments in your AEC walls especially if you have more than one windows or doors. Otherwise, there are problems. Best of luck.
Krisztian Gulyas
Thanks. I didn't know about that.
datacrasher
complete bull the only reason you need segs in you're walls is if you want to change the walls. You can run divide or run connects with you're walls to change it. You can add How many windows you want. if it does not cuts into the wall you can always create the window, door outside of the walls then use the link and select tool then drag the window for example into the walls this will automatically cut you're holes. In my last project, I had a couple of circular walls each of which had multiple adjacent windows the entire length of it. The entire group of walls were each made up of only a few segments to accomodate the circular design. Some of the windows kept blanking out even after I kept relinking them to the parent wall or they would be fine & the windows next to them would blank out. I wasted 3 days struggling with this problem, linking the windows, unlinking them, converting everything to mesh etcetera, when I found the solution which I mentioned above, IRONICALLY on this very forum. It worked, still does.
datacrasher
Just because you did something in you're last project does not mean he wants the same-thing done in his you can make the windows doors walls any width and height. If you're having a problem with linking them then you need to move the windows up in you're front view this is another way of making the cuts in the wall(s) or you can use the snaps tool. just because you're having a problem linking them does not mean we all will. you can always delete the windows and resets them into the walls. if you don't add another layer and make it hidden then covert you're normal walls down to a poly mesh whatever then the windows will close the cuts up because you convert down. you're not meant to convert the AEC walls down unless you have that hidden layer in the layer manager
Chris MacDonald
Just because you did something in you're last project... ...move the windows up in you're front view this is another way of making the cuts in the wall(s)... ...then covert you're normal walls down to a poly mesh I've been biting my tongue reading through this thread, but it's "your" in these circumstances. "You're" is essentially an abbreviation of "you are". Sorry, not meaning to be an arse, just one of my (probably many) pet peeves.

Chris MacDonald
you can bite you're tongue That'll be "your", again. What a way to respond, though I suppose it is to be expected of a 6 year old. Bravo.

Chris MacDonald
Seriously? You want to do this? Also, what has illegally downloading max got to do with anything?
Chris MacDonald
I think your reaction to my initial post (in which I made an apology in advance for being so anal about grammar) was a touch over the top, don't you? Also; you brought up the whole legitimate download of max thing for no apparent reason, not me. I am willing to post my work, in fact there's a thread in the work in progress section now, if you care to look.
