Rendering output different on seperate machines

Hi All,

Was hoping someone could help me...

I'm using 3ds max mental ray with "Enable Gamma/LUT Correction" ticked with both input and output set to 2.2.

On two separate machines my render appears different. One lighter and one a bit richer and darker, viewed on the same monitor.

Can anyone help with why?

Computers are almost identical in specification.

Thanks heaps for any help!!

gamma setting is not sent along with network render jobs. You can set it via the output options for the file type to force a specific gamma or you can copy the .ini file over to your other systems to make sure the configs are the same.

you can also run a pre-render script to make sure they match-

save these two lines and use that as a pre-render script:

IDisplayGamma.colorCorrectionMode = #gamma --enable Gamma

IDisplayGamma.gamma = 2.2 --set the Gamma to 2.2

Im not actually network rendering, ive just copied the file over to another machine....so 2 on the go.

How different is your "almost identical" on the machines?

different processors have the potential to produce slightly different results.

On occassion I see slightly different buckets while using DBR, but that is normaly corrected by running all the latest updates, patches, drivers etc..

You might want to look at your render save file dialog settings. When you go to tell 3DS MAX what type of file to save, were to save, and what the name is... This dialog box has a Gama override option right under the file type role-out. Take a look to see if they are the same.
