philvanderloo
After inporting a Revit file and using the VRay scene converter to convert all materials, how do I know the materials are now VRay materials? They still appear the same in the material editor. And I'm not seeing any VRay material editing options.
Scott Schroeder
Most Vray scene converters ignore the dumpy Autodesk Pro materials that Revit creates.
philvanderloo
Thanks Scott. Are you, or is anyone else, aware of the free multyconverter download from scriptspot and whether it takes care of this?
Scott Schroeder
I don't think it does unfortunately, though I haven't used it in a while.
Nicolai Bongard
Ive so far not found a material converter that works properly for me, but ive found the best workflow for me was to create a material library with all the vray materials that i use, then you use the "eyedropper" tool in the material editor, fetch a material from your imported object, select/activate it, then use the tool/button that says something like "select all objects with current material", then apply one of your ready made materials. Then you hide all the objects that youve assigned the new materials to to avoid confusion, and continue the process until all your objects are hidden, and you are sure that every object has a vray material assigned to it! Also, i am not sure how your vray scene converter works, but it is possible (unless youve checked), that the objects have gotten new vray materials assigned to them, but what you see in your material editor are the "old ones", that have not been deleted. To check, use the eyedropper tool on one of your objects after using the converter. If you get a new vray material, it has somehow worked (and i would greatly appreciate a link to your converter), or if you just get a standard autodesk material, the same as the old ones, then you either should try out my workflow and see if it works for you, or keep looking for a material converter! Good luck!
starslicer
Yeah but that all sounds like a lot of wasted time. I just wish I could assign Vray materials in Revit so when I export the FBX, it's already done. If I could do that, then I'd make a library of Vray shaders in Revit and put them in our standard Revit template.
