coryrose
There's a sticking point I'm having in my workflow that I'm having a hard time getting around. After we send progress renderings to the architect and receive a revised Sketchup model, I'd like to be able to delete everything in the max file except for the lights, cameras, trees, cars, etc., then re-import the new Sketchup model and have it use the Vray scene materials which are already made. When I import the new Sketchup model now, it creates new Standard materials with the same name as the Vray materials instead of condensing into the Vray material. Is there any way to get around this? Thanks in advance.
Chris MacDonald
Export the Sketchup as a .3DS and import that instead. Failing that, create some boxes in your scene, apply the materials you wish to keep to them, and use the colour picker/material selector to load it back into the material editor after import. Or save the materials to a library.

Or save the materials to a library. You can just open a previous iteration of your file as a material library. In the material editor to go to open a library and change the type to .max, and browse to your previous file.
