suganyasridhar Posted April 8, 2016 Share Posted April 8, 2016 Hi, i am an architect and work mainly with 3ds max,v-ray and photoshop.i want to built a workstation for a price range of around $1800(excluding monitor,keyboard or mouse price). right now i am considering the following configuration: 1.processor: intel core i7-4790k 1600mhz processor 2.graphics card: Asus GTX970 4GBDDR5II OC Strix Edition 3.SanDisk Extreme PRO 240GB SSD 4.RAM- Corsair vengeance 16GB (2x8GB)DDR3 5.motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97M-D3H Intel Z97 Chipset 6.case:cooler master mastercase5 MCX-0005-KKN000 CPU Cabinet 7.power unit: Crosair CP-9020098-UK VS Series VS650 650Watt Power Supply Unit. I don't know much about workstation configuration but the above mentioned configuration was provided by friend who is currently using the same. But is it better to go for i7-5820k or anyother 6 core processor.if so what are the other part configuration which would support that processor It would be of great help if you could suggest a best configuration for the above mentioned softwares and around the price range of $1800. As for the 5930K, no, it's not worth it in my opinion. It offers 12 pcie lanes more, that wont be of any particular importance in your case. You can overclock the 5820K and get the same performance with the 5930K, or even better. Your budget is enough for a good AIO cooler that would perform better if you decide to try out overclocking. If you want silence look at corsair silent fans. They are pretty too. If you want to see if the cooler fits go to the site of the manufacturer of the case and look at the specs of the case. Thank you for providing help with configuration and clearing my doubt abt 5930k vs 5820k. Sorry for the delay. The best two options imo right now in AIO are the Corsair H110GTX and the NZXT X61 Kraken. They are similar in cooling performance, but I personally went for the X61 for various reasons (the most important was noise levels). With a cooler like that you could highly oc your processor and have impressive single-(multi-)threaded performance. Keep in mind that with this particular chassis (Corsair 400C) you should better install an AIO like that (280mm rad) in the front part of the case. Putting two extra fans on the other side in a push-pull configuration could result in much better temps. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
