nicovanloggerenberg
Hi guys New user of Vray for Rhino here. I don't know if I'm just not getting something, but I simply cannot get a plane with a simple bitmap (a background) to disappear and not cast a shadow. I need a reflective steel object, but with no shadows or visibility of the bitmap plane. I have 'only in secondary' on and 'cast shadows' off. Seems to have zero effect. Nicolai Bongard
I do not use Rhino so i have no idea how stuff works there, but if you just want to have a background image you could try these links: http://archinect.com/forum/thread/80109/rendering-a-background-in-vray-for-rhino http://www.lookinglass.us/vray4rhinoWiki/tiki-index.php?page=Render+a+model+into+a+background+image
nicovanloggerenberg
Thank you, that's useful. What I'm specifically trying to do is capture reflections from planes in the reflection parts of my model. I do not have an HDRi, just a plain bitmap. But that bitmap casts a shadow, regardless of what options I tick on it.
Nicolai Bongard
In the picture you posted, is that the material settings? Because if it is, what you have chosen is most likely that if the material illuminates the scene, the other objects in your scene that gets illuminated will not cast shadows. In 3ds max what you do to achieve what you want is to select the geometry (plane) and edit the options of the object to not cast shadows. So my best guess is that you are in the wrong menu. As previously stated i am not familiar with rhino, so i am not sure where you would go to do this.
nicovanloggerenberg
Hi Nicolai I have changed the same setting in Rhino as well. I downloaded a sample file from another user and with exactly the same settings my Vray refuses to render the object without shadows - I file like I am missing something elementary.
