Janzer v1.0
Just sending this out there to hopefully find out about some new 3d model sites I may have never heard of. It's great to find more and more resources especially if they happen to be free and contain models for MAX or VIZ. Maybe this thread could evolve to be a great resource for someone like me who is a relative newcomer the game of CG Rendering. Anyways, my contribution, however small it may be is as follows: Turbosquid (great for various models) Kohler (Great quality bath and kitchen products) 3D Cafe (great for various models)

Janzer v1.0
Is there a way we can create a folder or a sticky for stuff like this? I know that in 8 months I will be thinking about this post and have to search through months worth of posts to find this. Just an idea. Great idea Sawyer.....I think it might be worth the effort to speak to "the Man" about a possible database. Would be a great, welcomed addition to the site. A one stop shop for wicked links to quality models, textures, bumps, RPCs and the like. A great resource tool for us all. Thanks to all those who replied to my post. It's helped me big time. As I was searching the site I checked out the Links. It also looks as though Jeff was up on this too. There are some pretty good links to follow there as well. Brian Cassil
I thought I'd resurect this old thread. I've been running all over the web looking for high design good quality furniture models and am having a hard time finding much. A lot of the links listed here are dead now. I was really hopefull that when I saw someone mention that knoll had 3d models but I haven't been able to find them anywhere. Are they burried deep in the site somewhere? www.steelcase.com has a lot of good quality models and I use them for hospitals etc. but the designs aren't what I would call high design. louis.cho
My question question is a little noob but i don't know much about this industry for now. I was thinking that you had to model the entire scene but now I see that many use pre-fabs models. In with proportion do you use theses models? Is there time to model your own stuff?
Adehus
...is there time to model your own stuff? I think generally speaking, if you can find a pre-made model that meets your needs (acceptable format, quality, etc.) then most people will be inclined to just use it. I model furniture only if it isn't available elsewhere (or I can't find it). That said, I kinda enjoy modeling furniture... the challenge is more interesting to me than most of the relatively simple architecture I have to create. Oh... and a_w- thanks for such a complete list!

Ernest Burden III
knoll.com>resources>furniture symbols http://www.knoll.com/products/fsl.jsp I downloaded this thing, but its an AutoCad ARX object. The only ACAD version I have is an un-installed ACADLT97, and it cannot read the ARX data, lackt the appload command, 3rd party add-on begins with LT98. So I can't get the darn models out. Has anyone converted the models to regular DWG? Since the databank is distributed free I think it would be OK to share the models.
vizwhiz
EBIII one would Think, but however having read The EULA, it is not so end-user friendly just The standard one-use, one-person per one-world boilerplate legalese statements so what are you interested in? i got The download To download (finally) but everything is 2d symbols That can be converted into 3d blocks individually They are NOT in 3d mode natively PM me about what you are interested in as Time permits i will get back To you, maybe i cant make promises in writing, warning disclaimer should go here so what version of autoCAD do you have? That has 3d capability? pls let me know Thanks Randy

krizinbizz
I guess it's my time to contribute, though I'm not sure this will be much of a contribution worth anything to anyone. However, for Firefox users not in the mood to bookmark all the links already posted in this thread, I've made a little txt-file that can be imported directly into Firefox. It contains most of the bookmarks already posted plus a few more. I have also removed some dead links, but haven't had the chance to go through them all yet. I have categorized them into: - CGArchitect resources - Models - Free - Commercial - Textures & Shaders - Free - Commercial If you're not familiar with importing bookmarks, do as follows: 1. Download the file cgarchitect.txt 2. In Firefox, click Bookmarks > Organize bookmarks... 3. Choose File > Import... 4. Choose "From File" 5. Find the downloaded cgarchitect.txt That's it. PS! Haven't bothered checking if this works in Internet Explorer or Opera. Give it a try if you feel like it.
