hayleyminster
Hello everybody! I am a Max user, happily modeling and rendering my days away. I have recently started a new job - Basically setting up an inhouse visualisation department/3D Design ... and all that jazz - within an architects practice. They use Archicad 13 - me, Max 2009. My question is this - Can I export my model from Max as any file format that would be accepted by archicad and be editable? (High hopes maybe!?!) DWG was my guess, but it flattens it into 2D bunch of lines. The point of the exercise would be to generate some reasonable looking sections and elevations on a conceptual level to get the client on board al pronto! Thanks guys - any assistance muchous appreciated!!!
BrianKitts
We use archicad in house as well, there's a couple routes..... You can get the "3ds-in" add-on but.... well, it sucks. Objects come in over tessellated, uneditable and bog down the model. http://www.graphisoft.com/support/archicad/downloads/ac13/USA/ There is a c4d add-on for archicad that is supposed to work quite well, but I can't attest to that as I don't use Cinema. http://www.graphisoft.com/products/archicad/addons/cinema_4d/cinema4d_download.html And the last one which is probably your best bet would be the sketchup add-on for archicad. It's not a direct in like the 3ds-in, since it will require you to export a 3ds from max, take it into sketchup (use the smoothing tool to remove triangulation) and then use the add-on to get it into archicad. Extra steps but likely to give you the best results. http://www.graphisoft.com/products/archicad/addons/sketchup/ ....just checked and didn't see the add-on for version 13.... there's a thread about it on graphisofts forum.... http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?p=162892&sid=bd4902535095939f43ce6988347cedcb Edited April 15, 2010 by BrianKitts
hayleyminster
Good morning! Thanks for that... Most helpful! I see that they have only developed until Archicad 12 - BUT - Not applicable to mac users... Gulp. I will have a go with Sketchup - But dont have Pro, oh the convolutions! C4D exchanges flawlessly btw - Im thinking this might be a route (Max_C4D_Archi)... Will keep you posted! Made the fatal assumption that 3DS Out automatically made 3DS In available. Thanks again! BrianKitts
I will have a go with Sketchup - But dont have Pro, oh the convolutions! You may not need pro..... I'm pretty sure the add-on can import the .skp file, so as long as you can import the .3ds into sketchup from max, save your skp, the add-on should be able to pull it right into archicad. no pro needed.
