autocadpro
I am trying to show more reflections on a chrome material. I have an hdri map in the environment slot. In the attached image the sphere shows the hdri reflection perfectly, but the rectangle only shows the reflection of the sphere and not the environment. How can I make the chrome on a flat surface reflect more?
-MerlyN-
Make it round... A flat surface can not show more reflections as the surface only points in one direction. It can only reflect, what geometrically is in the cameras reflected point of view. You can apply a bumpmap or displacementmap to roughen up the surface. That way you will get more reflections, but nowhere as near as on the sphere. Also, your camera is above the box. The HDRI is (usually, when mapped correctly) a positiv hemisphere, and the line of sight now points down towards the box and is then reflected downwards even more towards the ground and away from the HDRI Hemisphere. Stephen Thomas
Chamfering the edges of the box will allow it to pick up some highlights from the lightsources above too.
