TomD_Arch
I can vouch for Jamie's books. I bought his latest a few weeks ago and I'm only finishing chapter 1, but it has already improved my game significantly. I only use mental ray, and even the sections on V-ray contain information that seems relevant to my work flow. Also, I had a question pertaining to helper grids, I emailed Jamie. He responded and also included a script that helped solve my issue. For anyone that might say this all a shameless plug I would have to counter with it's valuable information that someone has gained over the course of their career and they are sharing it with the rest of the community. We should be thankful.

Jamie Cardoso
Hi Everyone, Thank you very much for your continuous feedback here. I really appreciate it!!!! And thank you for buying the book/s! Furthermore, please accept my apologies for the delay on the book's arrival. I am afraid I have no control over this!!! If it's any consolation, here's the email of the person you should contact: adam@3dtotal.com Yes, as mentioned earlier, the book can also be purchased from Amazon.com, or any Amazon website for that matter! http://www.amazon.com/Crafting-3D-Photorealism-Lighting-Workflows/dp/0956817157/ref=pd_sim_b_1 I have added the 3D Total link on my blog, because it provides users with a full preview of the entire book! In response to Mario's query, my book covers vray and mental ray. If you are looking for a book that covers Vray only, I would suggest you do a quick Google search on the matter. I am certain you will find plenty of good results!! I hope the above was helpful! Ta Jamie Edited October 9, 2013 by Jamie Cardoso
Karl Larsen
So you're telling me I paid $58 for a book that is available on Amazon for $25.98? If that is, in fact, true, you've made your last sale to me - Amazon or otherwise. Can I cancel the order and, if it ever actually arrives, send it back? Jamie Cardoso
Hi Karl, As mentioned earlier, please contact adam@3dtotal.com Just to make things clear, I do not print, dictate/set the price of a book and/or organize its delivery. Publishers do that! Having said that, I am confident that Adam will be able to help and point you in the right direction! I am really sorry to hear about your experience! Karl Larsen
You can rest sure that Adam just received an interesting email from me; I do not take these kinds of intentional oops' very lightly. Scott Schroeder
So you're telling me I paid $58 for a book that is available on Amazon for $25.98? If that is, in fact, true, you've made your last sale to me - Amazon or otherwise. Can I cancel the order and, if it ever actually arrives, send it back? Just to point out so no one thinks there is any tomfoolery going on. 3dTotal is actually cheaper than Amazon if you look at price to price. Both books are roughly $25. Where the price increase comes from is the conversion from the US dollar for those of us that purchased the book from 3dTotal that live in the States. Karl Larsen
I can only speak for myself, but if I knew you were going to pay more for something than you could via an alternate means, there is no chance in a million that I would fail to let you know - probably why I am not a millionaire. My mistake is that I did not check with Amazon prior to placing the UK order. That will not happen again.
Karl Larsen
The book arrived today and while I have only had the chance to glance through it briefly, it looks like it contains an incredible amount of very good information, and the physical quality of the book itself, is beyond excellent! Can't wait to start working my way through it!
Jamie Cardoso
Thanks Karl. After all that has happened recently, it's a big relief that you have liked it...at first glance!:0) Ta Jamie
Karl Larsen
I have zero doubt that this book will improve my work well beyond my initial expectations - much more so than the impression I was left with via the preview on the publisher's website, which looked great, but just didn't tell the whole story compared to having the book in front of my eyes, at least to me. And again, the physical quality is excellent, a pet peeve of mine! I loathe reading books printed on low quality stock... This is a book I will NOT be loaning out because if anyone were to dog ear a page or spill coffee on it, I can't say that I know how I would react!! Thank you, and Thank Adam! Thanks Karl. Mario Pende
Im quoting an amazon reviewer: "Book also focus evenly with Mental Ray and V-ray use, Chapter 2 and 3 for "Interior" Day and Night will utilizes Mental Ray, Chapter 4 and 5 for "Exterior" Day and Night uses V-Ray. Unfortunately I am interested in interior presentation technique using V-Ray, so this book was not for me" Is this true? No Vray interior class? Yes this is true, I had a similar apprehension because I am exclusively a mental ray user. However, let me say that in my opinion, having never even opened v-ray, I looked through the vray sections to see what I could glean on exterior rendering setups and I am very confident there will be information I can extract that will still come in very useful. I would not let this deter me from buying this book again. As such I would highly recommend it. I am still working my through the chapters for a project at work and with each iteration I can see a marked improvement.
