  1. I have a question. I have Asus GTX 660TI OC 2GB i7 3820 16GB DDR3 Ram SSD 120 Samsung and another 500gb HD. I am looking to improve my machine. And there are 2 things on my mind . 1st Change graphic card. I was thinking about buying ATI FirePro v5900 or Quadro K2000 but while reading posts I saw you praise the GTX 780. 2nd Change my CPU 3820 for 4930k. I am using Vray and CPU rendering, only thing i need graphic card is for viewport performance. I need help in choosing one of this options. Criteria is time spent on modeling scenes opposed to waiting for render to come to an end. THX
  2. Hi, I'm new here! I've been reading this site for a while but only decided to join recently. Wondering if I could get some advice on a strange issue I just started having. After my last save I must have pressed a key or made an inadvertent switch somewhere, because I'm just now having viewport issues (see attached photo). None of the objects in my model are transparent, however, they're appearing so in my viewport. There's also odd shading and pixelation. It doesn't matter whether I'm in orthographic or perspective view, shaded or realistic. It can't be a material issue, because up until my last save all the materials were showing up as they should. And it renders out just fine, no strange shading/transparency issue. I feel like it has to be a simple error that I just can't figure out! Thanks a lot for any advice (also, I'm using 3ds Max 2014).
  3. I have a detailed house model with over a million polys. I can browse around the perspective viewport at 200+ FPS, fullscreen viewport at 1080p HD with a GTX 550 2GB (scene uses only 1GB). But when I select a certain element or a polygon or even a single Edge and then rotate the viewport, I get 4 FPS speed and everything is slow to move. I am getting 200+ FPS in normal viewing mode so why so slow in edit poly mode? I have Max 2012 with windows 7 64. All latest drivers, hotfixes, windows updates etc.
  4. Hi, I'm new here and i read many threads about hardware, specially graphic cards but i'm still confused. I'm preparing to buy/build a new workstation dedicated to 3D design using 3ds Max. I work essentially on architectural projects (interior and exterior) and many of them has more than 15 millions of polygons. Actually for rendering i'm using a render farm composed of 3 computers i7 2600/8 GO RAM. So the workstation will be used essentially to design the scenes and not to render them. I want to work in comfort when manipulating the project into the viewport beacause actually using my actual machine it lags so much (i have an i7 960, 8 GO RAM, and an old ATI graphic card) For CPU, RAM, HDD and other hardware i don't have problem choosing them. But when it comes to grahpic card... I'm really blocked. Do i have to into gaming graphic cards or professional ones? ATI or NVIDIA? The total budget for workstation is up to 1500$ Thanks for your help.
