  1. To see what I mean more clearly see the attached jpegs. 1st: Unwrap dialog This shows maps that are associated with the unwrap modifier. 2nd: Those maps then appear in the scene materials in the material/map browser. I can manually go and click remove on each of the maps in the unwrap dialog or click reset texture list which doesn't work 100% of the time. And then they no longer are in the scene material window. So I was wondering why it does this as I would not need those sub-maps in the scene materials window, thus cluttering it up. See maps like checker pattern, UnwrapChecker, edge 1 etc Maybe a script is available to clean up maps associated with the unwrap modifier much quicker than going into every unwrap modifier and resetting or removing the maps? Thanks in advance.
  2. Sorry guys for the late reply and thanks for your feedback/suggestions.. I cannot delete any edges as I need those to map map channel 2 to the dirt map. The thing is with the vray edgetex map it rounds bumps those edges so adding any is not an option. Thanks, that's exactly the thing I was doing. Just thought there might be a more efficient way of doing it inside the edit poly or another method. It's made from the same polygons to display what you see. --------------------------------------- I'll stick with the method as spacefrog suggested. Much thanks guys.
  3. Hi, I find it strange that in edit poly there are no hide edges but in edit mesh there are. Brief summary of what I what to do: I have a model which has polygons directly underneath a window cill (This is so I can map a black and white map in map channel 2 to apply VRay dirt (In a blend material, see screenshots attached) to that particular area when unwrapped in that channel. Channel one is for the diffuse, bump etc. I have also used VRay EdgeTex to create fake rounded corners to any edges and inside that maptype I've chosen to not affect hidden edges. (see screenshot attached) The tuturial for this method of rounding corners is by Peter Guthrie @ http://www.peterguthrie.net/blog/2009/03/vray-edge-fillet-tutorial/ The trouble is as you can see from the screenshot is the left building has the lines above and below the cill getting affected by the VRay edge tex whereas the right one has an edit mesh modifier applied and those edges are hidden. My question is. Is there any way to do a similar thing in edit poly as in edit mesh by hidden edges OR Even if you have any suggestions of any other way to do the same thing. Thank you.
  4. See jpg for my problem. Is there any way to change the text colour from yellow and the size of the text. I would prefer to have it red because yellow in my opinion has to be the worst colour to have text in any application. PS. I know I can view the transform box Any help I'd be grateful thanks.
  5. I've re-up'd it...https://rapidshare.com/files/1239152173/mc_affectpivot.zip
  6. have already emailed for it.... hope i get a swift response.
  7. The dvd did not accompany the book. just the book! Has the same happened anybody out there?
  8. the BIBLE's delivered whoop whoop lol...
  9. Thank you, I did took about a half hour but well worth it. Got the .pdf version from autodesk website. Modified it, took into PS and inverted the colours to make the white text stand out on the desktop as the black text with white BG was too hard to look at. EVERY SINGLE 1!! Oh my gosh!! lol
  10. ok, no need to thank me then sure.
  11. Click on the image, click once again, right click, save image to e.g. my documents and then apply as a screen-saver. This is using firefox, don't even brother with IE (Brutal)
  12. See attached. You can place it as a screen saver.
  13. Here place this as your screensaver might help a little but good request
  14. Its down to what memory you have on your computer. xp32 bit can only use up to 4gb ram while xp64 bit can use at lot more but im running 12gb with no problems with it set at 11gb. So set that a little bit below your ram spec, this will help vray not crash by setting it to this limit. Graphics cards have nothing to do with rendering an image, but only the viewport as you pan, zoom etc ) That's the job for it. CPU along with ram renders the image. So your using max without a Vid card? Must be terribly slow within the viewport?
  15. To both plastic & Andrew1 There is a fixed/edited version which i use http://www.scriptspot.com/forums/3ds-max/scripts-wanted/desing-lines-with-values-typed-in-the-keyboard No popups on my side. Running max 2009 x64
  16. Looks good I ran the trail, like the interface, i'll have to learn it first though.
  17. Not really but you don't have to brother moving or going near the pivot just click where you want it to go. I don't think there is a shortcut within max to centre the objects pivot or snap the pivot to vertex or what ever you prefer.
  18. steps by doing it that way. select object go to hierarchy panel hit affect pivot Spend ages trying to grab hold of the pivot span pivot to wherever you want click on affect pivot AGAIN This method select object right click and choose affect pivot with snap on click where you want the pivot point. DONE As you see there twice as less steps to perform (BUT saving 80% time) Try it out and see
  19. I really HAVE to share this link to you all, this is the simplest and BEST script about. Please give your gratitude to the author and rate it. Works by loading it in the context menu she attached and clicking on affect pivot and with object snap on click on the vertex or midpoint whatever tickles your fancy An option to centre pivot also http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/affect-pivot-and-center-pivot
  20. Don not fear and do not use that method, Use this script http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/affect-pivot-and-center-pivot and put it in ur right click context menu wherever you wish. All you have to do is have snaps on and click where you want it, its a very underrated script (4 some reason!!) so please give a rating. I did, shaves of 80% of time to place a pivot point.

  22. Whaaaooo looks like i've opened up a can of worms, obviously the person bought the book and wanted to get recognition for passing it around from pillar to post. With something around a THOUSAND pages "OMG" and two years blood sweat and tears work put into it then it has to be said that it is the lowest of the low that done it. ***ON ANOTHER NOTE*** HAS ANYONE LEARNED A LOT FROM IT, EVEN IN THE MOST EXPERIENCED OF USERS OUT THERE
  23. hi jeff, glad to meet the President/Founder himself and have his input. BTW love the site "GREAT JOB" BUT its still has managed somehow to leak onto the net. Have it bought now so awaiting it any day now
  24. Although having a faster search method whilst working would be nice too, having read the hardback 1st though.
  25. EXACTLY it looks the same size as the BIBLE!! lol You pay good hard cash for some thing but he WAS a bit srude in not putting a searchable pdf bundled with it... If there is already a pdf version floating about then WHY bother not putting it in!!!!! Stil gonna get it though.. He might do in the future I HOPES
