  1. I’ve been wondering about the true benefits of 3D architectural visualisation. Are 3D architectural visualisations merely pretty pictures, or are they essential to the business of the client? For those who do 3D architectural visualisation and regularly work with clients, what, according to your experience, are the clients looking for when they are considering buying 3D architectural visualisation services? If you have the time, please could you chime in with your thoughts on this. I’ve drawn up a list of questions that I would love to get answers to. For the purpose of these questions, a client can be anybody (architects, builders, property developers, real estate agents, etc.): What sort of business results do the clients expect from 3D visualisation services beyond simply pretty pictures? What are the specific problems the client wants resolved that 3D architectural visualisations can help with? What impact do 3D architectural visualisations have on the business results of your client? Is there any data available that shows this impact? Specifically, is there any data that suggests that a client who uses 3D renderings in their marketing (even if they are low quality) is more likely to sell a property than a client who doesn’t? Do 3D architectural visualisations help in terms of saving time for the client? If so, how? What are the specific fears and reservations that the clients have when deciding whether or not to purchase 3D visualisation services? Aside from the images themselves, what other intangible benefits do the clients look for? Thanks for your time. Much appreciated.
  2. Hi I'm an arch student thinking about doing some freelance visualisations. These are renders I've done for a uni project of mine and I'm wondering what kind of rates or flat fee's i should be charging for renders of similar quality.
  3. Hi People, Just wondering what people's thoughts are on the client asking for the 3D model of a scene once its been modeled and furnished? Its a large scale model and will take around 10 days work. We have quoted for 5/6 visuals of the space but they are asking for the model as well. Do I just give it to them or charge them for it. Pro's and con's????
  4. I have a client that has provided some floor textures for me to put into an existing scene. The only problem is, it's only ONE wooden floor board. He's given me two textures and wants to see them in a photorealistic environment. So, I gave him a render of mine (family / kitchen area of my demo house) and then changed the flooring material a few different times to show him how straight forward it is. I used ProMaterials in my example renders for him and did a tile, a wooden floor, and carpet. He thought it was great. Now, however, he's given me two ever-so-slightly different wooden floor boards and wants to see them in my existing scene. I can barely tell the two patterns apart - there must be something that is very industry specific about them that I am not aware of. I've applied it to the floor, but it tiles something aweful. My concern: if I go in and muck around in photoshop, making the canvas bigger, copying a piece here and a piece there, I wonder if that will 'lose' the special qualities of the floor material. This is an incredibly low-bid job because he said he had floor tiles. Tiles. I took it to mean square kitchen tiles. The proposal never mentioned me photoshopping anything. I've e-mailed him 3 typical floor board texture JPGs to show him the variation in the material, and voiced some concerns over me photoshopping the single, thin board texture he's given me. I've asked if he can provide a more varied texture. Question: Err... what should I do? Should I try to make a texture from this single piece of wood (which I'm not allowed to show anyone, for fear the Commies might steal their ..er.. wood pattern..?)? Should I give him the renders he asked for and ignore the tiling? Language is an issue as well. Sigh.
