  1. CGTrader is now running a new 3D Challenge: Abstract Elements with a prize pool of 6000 USD in cash and additional 1500 USD in subscriptions. All you need to do is to create high quality, realistic 3D models of various shapes and forms found in nature, graphic design or thought-of by people. Not sure where to start? Create a flame, cloud or smoke. Design a top-facing 3D flower, an ornate leave or create an ornamental work like filigree. Make a decorative frame for use in a surrealistically designed composition, a water splash or a crystal. Turn a plain geometric shape into a decorative piece of art or shatter glass, creating a pattern of fractured shards. Put your imagination to work and show us how stunning and interesting 3D can be even when working on simpler objects! If you already have some models fitting the theme, you are even one step closer – just check the technical requirements for the challenge and adjust your models. There are some technical aspects such as formats accepted to keep in mind as well as some more general rules regarding presentation of model and IP rights. You can check them out in the FAQ (https://goo.gl/zJRF8B), terms and conditions section (https://goo.gl/VAiwVR) or in this blog post (https://goo.gl/5TvS1K). Just look carefully through all of them and get to work! Though technical rules are quite specific, we do also have a visual guide(https://goo.gl/4sYzjg) for you to better understand what is behind every rule (and even some tricks on where to find functions within Maya or 3ds Max). And if that is not enough still, keep in mind that our team gives feedback on every single asset (if there is something that needs to be corrected), so this challenge is also a great learning experience and a chance to get some expert comments. It is not only an opportunity to improve skills, develop creativity and put your work in front of the eyes of vast audiences of both CGTrader and Adobe Stock, but also to win great monetary prizes. Six designers, considered as the best ones in model and portfolio categories, will be awarded from 500$ to 1500$ in cash and additional subscriptions. There is still lots of time, as you can submit your models until the 5th of January, 2018. Don’t miss your chance - join the designing party! 2. Hi, I'm compositing a multi-pass render in fusion and my scene has a 2sidemtl on a lamp cover for the translucent effect. Problem is I can't manage to find wich render element has that info. I have all the usual plus SSS, caustics, luminance, raw, non-raw and still nothing. All the scene looks good but the cover looks dark. The transluceny effect is nowhere. Does anyone knows which element to render for that? Thanks in advance. Vince
  3. With Vray, I'm looking for a way to make an object invisible to the camera, but I still want the RawRefraction and RawReflection render elements to display their respective information for the object. Does anyone know if this is possible? In the past I've been having to rendering the image once to get the RGB element without glass visible and then render again to get the correct reflection and refraction elements. The whole point of this is to be able to use the extraTex element for AO and only have to render once.
  4. Hi guys, I've recently run into an issue where my render elements are not being saved out when rendering a job. I am using max 2012 and vray 2.1 This is a process I have done for many years and has worked fine however it seems to have ceased working. The passes are being calculated and are visible in the VFB. It is possible for me to just manually save out these passes, however when I render a large number of views over the network it becomes a bit of a problem. Has anyone else had this issue and found a way around it? Cheers Luke
  5. Hi everyone, I read something about the topic in the forum but I have not read any answers that I have solved my doubt. My problem is I need render a large image… so, i’ve used net render to strip my job. So far, so good. The problem is, when the render finish, the original image is OK, but the elements only take the last strip. How i solve this? thanks
