  1. I am trying to setup Backburner for rendering in the background. I am using 3dsmax 2013 on Windows 10. Everything seams fine Manager/Server/ Monitor they all see the PC logged on however when I try to send the rendering from 3dsmax I get this error message: Cannot network render. Backburner not found or not installed. Verify that the path to backburner is set in the Windows path environment variable or that backburner is actually installed Anyone can help with this path? Thanks
  2. How about a freezer or fridge. You may find a used one on craigslist.
  3. Scale> Reference is the solution. 1 Open your dwg and save as- so you do not mess up the original 2 go in MODEL space Delete all the stuff you do not need from the drawing 3 Look for a known dimension on the drawing. (A wall, a door, an opening, anything. Preferably along the Ox or Oy axis, ortogonal direction.) Let's call this AB line. Where A and B are the two ends of the known dimension. 4 If your AB line is along the Ox or Oy axis activate ORTHO mode by pressing F8. this will allow you to draw only along ox and oy axis 5 Now draw a line to the lenght that is called out in a drawing along AB line. This will be line AC and it will be to scale (Example: your drawings call the AB dimension to be 24". draw the AC line to 24" length). Activate the snaps too by hitting F3 6 type SCALE 7 select all your objects that you want scaled (should be all because you deleted all the things you do not need) 8 select as base point the point A 9 now hit R for reference 10 Reference lenght - click on point A and then on point B on your known dimension 11 For new length now click on point C That's it double check with '_dist command
  4. Carlos, you are right there is nothing that matches our field. The closest I could find is Technical Illustrator and Architectural drafter. Scott I think is right with the numbers. I do not know you visa details however they might offer you less because you are not US citizen or permanent us resident. Or not. It has nothing to do with you, is business. Anyway if you accept the job do not go on a spending spree thinking that you have a reliable income forever. Good luck!
  5. Check out salary.com and for rents go to craigslist.com Scott might be able to help you to chose the right neigbourhood
  6. Read Christian Bloch book. Is everything you need to know written from a cg artist perspective. http://www.hdri-handbook.com/book/index.html
  7. I say there should be no change to the forum. If you think the question is stupid, or has been discussed, do not reply. He can wait for an answer or use use Google. Easy. Now, if you are feeling treathend by "sweatshops" that is another discussion.
  8. don't forget to hit F3 to turn on object snap, if is not already on.
  9. The job was trough elance so I did not worried to o much about contract. And they offered to pay for the "native files". Now is water under the bridge anyway. thanks
  10. thank you guys for the advice. I just told them that I will not sell the original files. I was told they understand. Will I get future business, I don't know. It is what it is.
  11. I did recently some work for a client. He was happy however now they are asking for my original files and they are offering to pay. What should I do? Should I sell them or not? The guy who hired me says he totally understands if I don't want to sell them - he also does photography so I assume that is the reason why. On the other hand the files are totally worthless for me if they do not hire me for future projects. What would you do?
  12. the size of your nadir hole depends on your camera, lens, the way you shoot. To eliminate the nadir hole you shoot down off center and then in your stitching software you mask the tripod legs out. Photoshop is not the best tool for that because it does not allows for manual control of your stitch - at least cs5. Even so, Photoshop is "heavy" especially if you have have to handle 100 raw images to get your HDR sphere.
  13. the best and affordable stitching software is ptGUI. http://www.ptgui.com/ This is what I use. You can get a lot of info from Christian Bloch website as the others suggested. He has a free software to create sibl and one free software for tone mapping. For more info you should go to panoguide.com forum to learn about shooting panos. self promo. this is one of my most popular hdri environments http://www.the3dstudio.com/product_details.aspx?id_product=139041 oh yes there is no easy way, one tutorial that will answer all your questions or at least I did not find it yet. Mainly beacuse one software does that good but not the other one. You have to find your own best workflow based on time, budget equipment and skills you have.
  14. Alex, I guess you are right. Unless we get all together and we create our own organization with our own marketplace, we are at the hand of these privately run marketplaces. Ranting can get you so far. I mean at least you are venting but how about more constructive ways?
