  1. Hi there, I am soon to start the 3rd year of my undergraduate Architecture degree and I would like some advice on what visualisation software would best suit my needs for this year. I am hoping to get into the visualisation profession when I am finished, so I would really like to boost my portfolio with some quality renders from my final year. I am currently considering purchasing a v-ray license for Revit, as the Revit software is most familiar with me. However, after watching lots of videos I have come to realise that maybe v-ray in Revit is quite basic compared to sketchup+v-ray or 3dsmax+v-ray. To achieve the quality results I am after, Which of these software combinations would you recommend and why? Things to consider: Can models from Revit be imported straight into 3dsmax or sketchup for rendering/visualisation purposes?? What is the general work flow for creating amazing visuals? (i.e. Revit --> Sketchup --> Vray = final visual??) Will any of these softwares freak out if I imported a parametric geometry and tried applying material etc? Which is easier to learn? Which combination is more impressive to have on a Cv or portfolio? I know this is a lot for a newbie ask, but I would really appreciate the advice from some of the forums experienced members. Thanks in advance
  2. This might be a very basic problem. Every time I try to render the scene it produces a faint, ghost like render (image attached). Interactive rendering works fine. Can anybody help me with this?
  3. Hello all, I am a residential designer who branched out on my own less than a year ago. The business is busy, so much so we had to shut our doors to new work only a month in, and have been slammed ever since, and are measuring a new project on Thursday. The problem is our business model is unsustainable, while my family's need for food will sustain itself quite well. I need to get advice about our rendering process, because right now we are in a place we will never be again, but will always wish we could go back to. After we make these decisions, enormous amounts of training will begin, along with expensive software and hardware purchases. After that point, the equation changes and whatever system we are using is overvalued simply because of the equity it contains. We do a variety of things, but our visualization services are our cornerstone, and simply must be vastly improved. Our issue comes in the tedious and far too slow process for creating and changing 3D furniture and casework objects, and the fact that a respectable library of 3d plants is not available. Garish cartoon simulacrums are the best I've seen. Add this to the fact that our renders should be higher resolution, and we have a problem. We will post a specific question in the proper forum. Thank you
  4. Hi Im new in 3D, I need to do matte painting in speculative architecture for my project, at the moment I don't understand how can the resolution of the 3D model surface match later on in PS with image texture. I can setup the resolution due to " Make Unique Texture" option in Sketch up, however I haven't got any clue when I create the dimension of 3d model in meter according to the picture which I will use for texturing later on in PS, which it appears in cm and the picture usually bigger than the 3D model, therefore the image even, if I scale it down, don't match with shape. How can I eliminate this problem Thanks
  5. So the firm im interning at only use sketchup and i use 3ds max. I imported the 3ds max file using Collada script and everything is fine. But my coworker needs everything in layers to assign materials in sketchup- door frames in a layer, glass in layer, wall in layer etc. İ tried putting them in layers in 3ds max but it imports as 1 layer. How can i do that?
  6. Hi All, I am concidering processing with an upgrade to a Mac Pro 2013 from an old 2008 Mac Pro tower. I have some queries with regards to the change. Specifically - has anyone been using sketchup with Vray 2.0 on this machine? Do you find it works well? And have you any issues using Vray RT or all areas of vray. All help, and experience with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  7. I am a proficient SketchUp user brand new to 3dsMax. I simply want to embed a flat spot in an existing terrain. In Sketch Up this is done with the Stamp Tool. What is the best modifier to accomplish this in Max?
