1. Hi Guys, I am stuck with this issue for many days now, I am creating an exterior scene which needs to be rendered out in Multiple Layers and Each Layers in Multiple Passes. What Comp Artist needs in for every layer he needs a shadow of the hidden objects meaning the objects in the other layer. for Example : Layer 1 - House Layer 2 - Ground Layer 3 - Trees Layer 4 - Cars Etc Now What i am trying to do is Create a Shadow Matte for Ground Layer using VraymtlWrapper( As i ground layer is needed to collect the shadows from other elements) and Turning off Visible to Camera options in object property for all the objects in other layers. but when i render in, there something is completely off with the shadow matte which i have applied to ground layer, please check the attached image for reference. I am using Vray Camera and I am using Vray Sky as Environment, I tried using the Vray Object Property but its the same results. Please help me guys what i am doing wrong, I am Using 3ds Max 2017 and Vray 3.4 Btw - For Vraymtl wrapper - I am using Alpha -1.0, Shadow and Effect Alpha option is turned on and Matte object option Thanks
2. Recently I came across an obstacle I don't seem to find a solution to. I'm making a photo-match using VrayMtlWrapper as material to receive shadows. When using linear color mapping with default settings - VrayMtlWrapper works fine. But as soon as I start tweaking burn and/or gamma settings I get strange results - VrayMtlWrapper is seen as some bright noise over background image. I really like the natural tone of light/shadows getting out of Reinhard set to B=0.25 and G=2.2 (learned from Peter Guthrie) as opposed to linear color mapping which looks more unnatural or too contrasted. Does anyone know how to combine Reinhard method (alpha 2.2) with VrayMtlWrapper to get propper shadow effect on background image without unwanted noise. See the attached pictures. other settings are: - overall gamma correction 2.2 - HDRI as texture on vray dome light as a light source (multiplier=1) - ordinary jpeg image as backgorund (environment slot) with gamma 1.0 - and color mapping / affect background = unchecked - vray physical camera - VrayMtlWrapper with alpha contribution = -1, matesurface=on, shadows=on Thanks, Tom
3. Hello, Im new to rendering with vraymtlwrapper and I want to create model with glass windows, but I have a problem. Behind model I have vrayplane like a wall of the house with vraymtlwrapper for masking model to photo but on glass windows I see this vraymtlwrapper color and I cant see background house through the windows. Everything else is OK, shadows, GI, only cant see through the windows. When I disable Visible in refraction in Vray parameters of vrayplane, I can see through the windows, and its what I want, but there is on shadows and GI on the wall. How can I render it only with shadows and GI on the wall of the background building but with transparent window glasses? Thanks for your reply
4. Hi, I am trying to match CG objects to a background plate with 3DS Max & V-Ray using a HDR image for lighting & reflections. I want the CG objects to both reflect the environment and the surface they sit on. I created a plane object and assigned a vraymtlwrapper with the Background image as the base material. The problem is that the CG objects appear to be transparent rather than reflecting the surface/ground. Is it possible for the cg objects to reflect the ground rather than appearing transparent and seeing through them to the background. It appears that the objects are just reflecting the background as an environment rather than a ground plate. I hope this is clear. I have attache an image showing you what I am tring to achieve. Please see the attached images: 1, IBL with matte shadow.jpg showing the problem reflections 2, Environ. & Material settings.JPG 3, IBL Teapot.jpg showing an example of what I am trying to achieve. This was done with mental ray shaders. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks, Peter
5. HI All Here I precent a very simple scene with an overexposed image Looks like this. I have made my first HDRI test and want to learn the compositing of objects into a real photograf. Here are my objects rendered out from the Cam-match without matte object. so far so good..... But here is the problem Rendered matte with reflections see image below: as you can see the table matte object that only is supposed to recieve shadows, reflections, refractions, caustics etc. from the objects, is messed up, because I can not exclude the reflections from the environment from the matte plane (table) - and ofcause I need the table to be precisely as in the image, with absolutely no lighting alterations made by the 3d software. How the h... can I do that? Or how do I set this up right, any help is very much appreciated Here are some of my settings. Matte object (V-Ray wrapper) with all the correct settings inc. base material see the above images. Base material with a little glossy reflection. The diffuse image is the first image you saw in this question applied as screen. I see some discussion about render elements but I have tried them all, none of them helps me. please please help. Thanx a big lot Sincerely Nomolas

Where to begin?

Hi everyone, Vi here... I'm frustrated! I am trying to create a scene using a bitmap as the background. The general theme is to put 3d furniture in a picture of an empty room, creating a photo-realistic image. I've tried putting the bitmap in the environment map roll out in Render Setup, in Environment and Effects, and also just as the Viewport Background... with combinations of them too.... I place a plane as the "floor" and match it to the angle of the photo through a vray physical camera. I have tried to use the vraymtlwrapper with matte/shadow as a base material but it never seems to work properly, and when it does work alright... everything else goes to *ahem* you know... Also, another thing- my objects are rendering slightly "see-through". Reading through posts and experimenting with things has led me to believe that they are reflecting the "environment". I've tried adjusting my reflection parameters and different settings along those lines but nothing will work! I feel like when I get one aspect of the photo to look decent, another aspect completely fails. I wish there was a step-by-step "How-to" video or tutorial somewhere to show me what I need to fix. If anyone knows a good way to start a project like this please help!! I know render settings vary from image to image, but if I could just get some general guidelines for using a bitmap background... that would be amazing! Thank you for tuning in. Much love, Vi
