  1. So I've run into this weird glitch/problem, and searching hasn't been able to help me out, so I thought I'd see if anyone here had any ideas. I'm running 3ds max 2011 and autocad 2013 (downsaving to 2010). I've been linking my .dwg files into my max files using the file link manager. This problem has cropped up twice and I'm not sure what's up. I link the file, no problem, it imports, I do my mapping and everything is going swimmingly. When I come back to the drawing another time, the file acts like it is still linked, but in the file link manager dialog box there is nothing there. Nothing to select so that I can reload my updated .dwg files. Selecting geometry in 3ds max still identifies it as linked geometry, but there is just nothing in the file link manager dialog box. I can't bind, detach, reload, nothing. Since it's still acting linked I can't delete anything, and I also can't reload. So I basically end up having to put it all on a layer, hide it, and then re-import the .dwg file and start fresh. Anyone run into this before?

    Faster render?

I design event stages & stuff & tend to use a lot of lights & reflective materials. Also the venues are sometimes huge so that means lots of light. How can I improve my render time? p.s. I use max 2009 & vray on a 64 bit machine. The IT guy told me that if I used max 2011/13 my render time would improve because they have been made for 64 bits. Is this true?
  3. hi everyone..there are some strange white spots on my render..i cant seem to get them out...i read the other posts in here n checked sub pixel mapping..but still problem persists..pl sm1 help as i am tight on schedule..........Also any comments about the render itself ...any suggestions
  4. Hi all, I'm starting to build a new PC specifically for 3D Max and VRAY. This forum has been incredibly helpful for researching the different components. I see a lot of people using 8GB or 12GB RAM in their designs, so I was wondering if there are any problems with my plan to go with 16GB. Is it more than can actually be used? Proposed system below. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks. i7 2600K 3.4GHz ASUS P8P67 (rev 3.0) FirePro V4800 Corsair XMS3 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 1600 Corsair 60GB SSD Seagate 1TB 7200RPM HD Windows 7 Pro

  6. Hello, Just joined this forum today, My name is Hans, I have been a Microstation user for 18 years now, but am getting into more visualisation work, namely 3dS max... I have done a little bit of everything design wise, from 3d terrain modelling of the seafloor off of the coast of Norway, plant design, some simple architecture, and even a few independent design jobs for new patents. I have returned to my home in the USA, and am now working with the department of transportation to do some visualisation work involving terrain, architecture and roadways. So, Hello everyone.
  7. Hi guys. I bought a monster pc. Specs: Intel i7 x990 6-core 3.47ghz(3.76 overcloacked) Nvidia quadro 6000 ssd HD 24gb of ram 1600hz. Software I'm using- 3ds max 2011 64-bit Windows 7 pro 64-bit V-ray 1.5 sp5 64-bit I'm very exited about the new pc. when I started rendering a scene In v-ray ,I opened the task manager to check the CPU and ram memory usage I saw that all 6 cores were maxes at 100%, BUT v-ray was using only 3.9 gb of ram. Now I know that vray and 3ds max use as much memory as they need. And I know that in scenes with lots of trees and proxies and displacement I would get a higher usage of ram memory. BUT- The question is : in scenes with little to no proxies and displacement, can I use my extra ram memory ( I have a LOT extra ram going to waste) to speed up rendering. And if yes how?
