  1. Sorry, I made a mistake, GI is set to normal. I've re rendered and it seems to be working, but yes, it is 32 bit for sure. Thanks for the advice everyone.
  2. Like you can see in the image, the beauty pass looks correct, but the render passes are too bright and the highlights are clipping. I always composite my renders the same way: - Refraction (Linear Dodge) - Specular (Linear Dodge) - Reflection (Linear Dodge) - Lighting (Linear Dodge) - Global Illumination (Linear Dodge) This usually works fine, but something is wrong. Also, the alpha channel is showing white and grey rather than white and black. Anything I put behind there in Photoshop comes out white, regardless of what colour it is. I'm exporting to a 32bit EXR, with no frame buffer settings changed. I'm not sure if it matters, but I use Reinhard colour mapping with a burn value of .05 because I prefer how it looks and have been reccomended it by other people. I've done 3 renders with Reinhard and the first one was fine, the second was slightly different and this one is much different. I don't know what I am doing wrong, I appreciate any help.
  3. I've been working in VRay for nearly two years and I would consider myself a decent artist. My materials and texturing is good but my lighting has always lacked. I'm having trouble achieving well lit interior rooms, with nice contrast and colours, but I always end up with overexposed spots and the rest of the room being, just okay. I want my renders to look more like these: http://www.cgarchitect.com/2017/02/vemdalen-kitchen http://www.cgarchitect.com/2017/02/creative-city---neu-marx7 http://www.cgarchitect.com/2017/02/creative-city---neu-marx8 http://www.cgarchitect.com/2017/03/bankside-flat---2 Maybe it is just because I know that my images are just renders, but I always feel like they don't like right, they look 3d. They never have that realistic, photographic quality that I see from professionals. I am very critical of myself, I don't ever love what I end up making, but I want to improve myself a lot this year. Any tips? Anything I should be doing in VRay? I see people using HDRi's and getting great results, but mine don't turn out that nice. My raw renders always need a lot of work, because the lighting is never as even as I want, but I've seen other peoples unedited work and the render is almost good enough to publish as is. Sorry if that felt like I was ranting, I just really want to get better, I want to be the best I possibly can be, especially if I am going to be doing this professionally. Thanks for any help
  4. Overall, it looks good. Just some things that look out of place. Like the other comment says, some things just don't add up. Going off of the dresser, the room has a nautical feel with the boat, but the guitar is the complete opposite and the nightstand looks like it belongs in a fancy hotel rather than a very simple bedroom. The bed is seriously awesome, you have nailed the materials and modeling. To me, something looks off with the bump/displacement on the rug where the sunlight hits it, though that might just be artifacts from uploading it. The items under the bed are a nice touch, but they would look better in a kids bedroom as opposed to a very mature looking one like this. As for the lamp, I'd go with something simple, like the rest of the room. As I said, overall it is very good. The lighting is nice, the room has a great feel to it, but some things don't belong. There looks to be a bit of noise in your render too, in the shadows on the bed and on the dresser at the back it is most noticeable.
  5. If all you are asked to do is deliver renders, it doesn't matter, but most studios use 3DS. If they just want a render at the end of it, you could use Blender, C4D or whatever else.
  6. My current set up is like this: 1TB storage drive, gets copied to another 1TB drive which is an exact replica of it, then backed up to an external 1TB drive over USB 3.0. Also I sometimes will drop things on dropbox, but I don't have any room on theres I only do it if I have something really important.
  7. Hey, I came from Maya to 3DS and within a few days I was pretty good at it. They really aren't that different once you work out how they each work. Just watch tons of videos and ask tons of questions.
  8. Like the title says, I need to model and stack firewood to go next to a fireplace. I will need 20-30 pieces of wood and I would prefer to not have to model each and every one. I tried just cutting a cylinder into a wedge, but the results are too flat and perfect. I want exactly this, but I would rather do it myself. http://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/3d-wooden-logs-pile-wood-model/739632 Any ideas on how to do this without spending a whole day making individual logs?
  9. I'm trying to render a living room scene with large windows. I want there to be squares of light on the ground, with sharp shadows where the window frames are. I am happy with my lighting using VRay Sun and VRay Sky, but the lighting is too soft and creates really soft shadows. If I disable the VRay Sky, I get the sunlight on the ground like I am looking for, but the whole scene looks bad. I tried using a VRay Dome but I don't have much experience with them and I just ended up with a dull render and solid blue outside the windows.
