  1. Set my light sup-divids to 16, DMC is to 16, Checked my reflection and refraction on my glass element on the right, Brute Force GI at 16 Primary Bounce - Brute Force not set Secondary Bounce - Brute Force not set light intensities are quite low using one colored blue light, one soft yellow light, both rectangular, also using some spotlights. 2. Hey Folks, I just started with vray 3 for Rhino. They changed the color-mapping options and also refection subdivisions don't seem to work as I am used to from 2.0. These issues are resulting in the white dots in reflections, that i could normally very well avoid by using the "subpixel mapping". Has any of you some suggestions how to target that? many thanks!
  3. Hi, I use Rhino and vray as my main tools for modelling / rendering. I have a relatively new main workstation and a small farm consisting on a Asus G73 laptop and another 2 less powerful desktops that I had around. However my laptop died (motherboard is gone) and I'm looking for an extra system to replace it. My main workstation right now: Intel I7 4770K o'clocked at 4.6 Mhz and very stable MB Asus Z87M-PLUS 32 GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 4GB SSD 256GB + 3TB HD Corsair CMPSU-650AX 650W Gold AX PSU Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler New machine budget $1,500 tops My thoughts: 1.- Getting another laptop as fast as possible to replace the dead one so that I can also use it as my portable station when I need to (not very often but always useful to have the option if I travel) or ..... 2.- Build a rig faster than my current one listed above to be used as the main station using the good video card and big hard drives from my current workstation. I'm interested mainly in the processor power and the 4770K still is a great processor as rendering slave and a small hard drive and a cheap or even on-board video card will do. I know that for the same money a desktop buys me more power so maybe I should forget the laptop option for the times I'll be needing to have something portable ... I any case, what would be the best $/GHz rendering rig that $1500 can buy me, i7? Xeon ? single? Dual ? taking in account that I could use some of the components as I mention above. I get easily lost with so many opinions ... Thanks
  4. Hi, I have followed all settings from a number of online tutorials on Dome light HDRI in vray and rhino. I don't know what it is, some of the renders have a black (darkened) part near the top of the image, and some don't (depends on the perspective) - please see attached images. For these two scenes, I didn't touch the domelight at all, only moved around and showed a different view, already they showed 2 different results. There are some scenes that I need to show a particular perspective of a building, (perspectives where the camera is near the ground, not bird eyes view) and those scenes always have that darkened part at the top. Has anyone encountered this problem? I have tried many things, and I can't seem to figure it out. I am using Vray 1.5 and Rhino 5 Many thanks
  5. Hy guys, Im always use autocad to modeling a room, and then render it on 3ds max But, I see so many another software likes Maxwell, Rhinoceros, ArchiCad, Grasshopper (this is plug-in on Rhino, right?), Maya, Cinema 4D. What is their specialities, pros and cons ? Please, tell me another software that i dont know yet Thanks for the reply guys
  6. What does vray do exactly from the time that I hit 'render' to the moment where the frame buffer and status window show activity ? I have a scene in Rhino where, regardless of what vray settings I use (low or high quality), it always takes a long time to start the pre-passes. I tried turning off-the-camera objects but it doesn't seem to make any difference. I also happens with GI off. However, when exporting only the objects seen by camera and rendering them as separate scene the process starts way faster. This suggests to me that vray still considers the objects not seen' by the camera by turning off layers or by hiding the objects individually. Thoughts ? EDIT: I tried leaving ONLY one object vs. ALL objets (some 1,200 objects, file size is 30mb) and takes exactly the same time, about 4 minutes to see any activity. Also the framebuffer time stamp doesn't take this wait time into account ... And by the way all vray windows become frozen so I cannot cancel. Is this normal ?
  7. I'm not sure if this is the proper place to ask this but here goes nothing. I have just built a new PC and when rendering using V-Ray in Rhino it is significantly slower than my old PC... Which doesn't make sense since the new PC spec wise is better in every way. Specs: AMD (Old PC) Processor: AMD FX-8150 Zambezi 8-Core 3.6GHz Socket AM3+ Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 OS: Windows 7 Intel (New PC) Processor: Intel Core i7-4790K Devil’s Canyon Quad-Core 4.0GHz LGA 1150 (Hyperthreaded) Memory: G.SKILL TridentX Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400 Video Card: MSI GAMING GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB 128-Bit GDDR5 OS: Windows 8.1 The AMD processor will render using 100% of the cpu. My test rendering finished ~8 min. The Intel processor only uses ~20% of the CPU and finished in ~30 min. I've posted a link to an album with all of my V-Ray settings shown. Both PC's are running V-Ray Version 2.00.02. I have a feeling that my V-Ray settings are optimized for my AMD processor and not my new Intel. Could anyone help me tweak the settings in order to see a boost in performance from the Intel processor? Thanks! 2-D drawing

I am trying to make 2-D drawings of selected views. At the beginning everything was fine but now it turns out that some of the views cannot be made into drawings. Does anybody have an idea why it works only with some of the views? Screenshots attached.
  9. Hello everyone, this is my first post. I'm an architecture student and i want to manufacture something via CNC machining. Will there be any difference in the quality of The object manfactured, if I have designed it in rhino or catia??
  10. My rendering generated in VRay does not match the angle of my Rhino viewport. My viewport aspect ratio and size is set to match in the VRay output options. It's almost as if VRay automatically rotates the camera or changed the lens length. Does anyone know how to fix this?
  11. hey! i'm tying to set up a flyaround animation through my model in rhino but i'm having issues with images beeing completely overexposed/whited out, once i get on my animation path. when i zoom out and adjust the camera manually i get the light settings that i wanted. i have the "physical camera" turned on (and it doesnt even affect this bug). from reading around i guess it could be as simple as setting the render mode from perspective to camera view? but that's in max and i can't find that switch anywhere in rhino-vray.. i hope its just something banal like that and not some graphics bug! any help appreciated.. thx, mat.
  12. Hi! I made a structure in rhino(with grasshopper), and would now like to map each object with multi texture for 3ds max. if you look at the screengrab there is three differnet objects; vertical shape, horisontal shape and diagonal left and diagonal right. Is there a why either in rhino or 3ds max where I can give all shapes in each group above a UVW box with indiviual center placement? I know if this was something created from blocks I could work with indiviual mapingcordinates, but since this is grasshopper, is there a manualy work around? thanks!
  13. A relatively simple model... VRay 1.5 + Rhino 5 + preview settings + displacement on = stuck on "building light cache" forever VRAY 1.5 + Rhino 5 - displacement = renders fine VRAY 1 + Rhino 4 + displacement = renders fine (with the same exact settings as those used in VRay 1.5 + Rhino 5) Any help? I thought VRay 1.5 with Rhino 5 was supposed to be super fast, and able to take advantage of my extra RAM (16GB) while Rhino 4 maxed out at 4 GB? Thanks!
