  1. Hi All, I work for an Arch Viz practice that has a project coming in soon where the client's sending over Revit models for which we intend on rendering with Vray in Max. This is a question for those who have working knowledge in Revit as I'd love to pre-empt potential issues when translating from Revit to Max. So that in mind, what issues have other found when working with Revit to Max? When considering workflow - how have people found it compared to their usual methods? (i.e. for us - Historically we model in AutoCAD). I'm expecting to adopt a stronger relationship with our client's CAD technicians to assure they send us correct information - however at this point I need to invest a lot of time in figuring out exactly what is it we'd need from Revit i.e. .RVT and FBX files. Any input would be greatly appreciated and apologies if the topic has been discussed before - I had a look! Greg
  2. Hi I have a farm of about 10 machines. 3. Hi all, I am building a desktop - workstation for the first time, for my working purpose as an architect - So I am quite a noobie and I know nothing about OpenCL or OpenGL or the difference in different DirectX version. This desktop-workstation will be only use for Work purposes. ( I don't game ) List of Programs I will be using are : 1) Adobe CC - Photoshop, illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, etc 2) Autodesk - AutoCAD (Intense), Revit (Intense-used), 3DSMAX + Vray 3) SketchUp + Vray 4) Rhino + Vray 5) BIM I will be running Windows 8.1 pro 64bit So, my work goes like this - From Planning to 3D Modelling to Rendering. While on 3D Modelling and Rendering, it will take pretty long to time (especially Render) and the computer will be on for intensive rendering for a long time. This is the part list I have at the moment (incomplete) http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/rstq7P I need help from experience user, especially from those who work with workstation. Questions : 1) Comments on the pc parts that I had chosen. Is it recommended for my use? Or I should go with other parts? (Reason I go with 2011-v3 socket is that I read it is for enthusiast and I want something powerful enough, to not mess with the programs while I work. And I did not choose a Workstation motherboard because is too expensive and I don't think I need it yet) 2) Stuck with Graphic Cards. - So like I said, I am a noobie and did a lot of research on this build, but still can't decide on the GPU. I would prefer Nvidia GPU to be honest. So, I am stuck with GTX, Quadro or the hybrid Titan (that's what I read from lots of forums). So, which will suit my needs? I read somewhere that rendering uses CPU instead of GPU, I am not clear about that. I also read that getting mid-range GPU that have higher GB (Memory) will be better off than getting the highest end GPU like the GTX 980. So, which GPU should I go with that is well-worth the performance and money? And also Faster Rendering Time. One important thing is that, I am frustrated with laggy, slow computer. So, I want something that could run really smooth for me. I can't afford all the High-End parts unless it is necessary. I hope to get help from here. Hope to hear from you all. Thanks in advance for everyone's suggestions/opinion/comments. PS : 1) I have people recommend me to change i7 to Xeon, because it is mean for 24/7. But I am not sure yet. Need some more suggestions from experience user. 2) I also have people recommending me to go with Quadro because I used Autodesk a lot and is stressing the OpenGL (not sure with at OpenGL) mean. But at the same time, another recommend me to just go with GTX 970. So which one will be best to suit my needs ? Please Help.

  5. Hi, I am wanting to build a PC for use with the following applications- Autodesk Alias, Autodesk 3ds max Solidworks Keyshot Maxwell Octane Maya Adobe after effect Adobe Photoshop Adobe Premier Pro Google Sketchup I have pretty much decided on the parts that i want to use and would much appreciate advice, suggestions and opinions on the final build to make sure i have everything right and it will be a good machine for the applications i am looking to use. This is the build- CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1230 V3 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor (£188.40 @ Aria PC) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler (£23.90 @ Ebuyer) Motherboard: ASRock H87M Pro4 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (£60.00 @ Amazon UK) Memory: Kingston XMP Blu Red Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (£96.59 @ Amazon UK) Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Disk (£118.79 @ Amazon UK) Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link TL-WN851ND 802.11b/g/n PCI Wi-Fi Adapter (£13.14 @ Aria PC) Video Card: Sapphire Technology AMD FirePro W5000 2GB GDDR5 DVI DP PCI-E Professional 3D Graphics Card (£339.91 @ Dabs) Case: Fractal Design Arc Mini R2 MicroATX Mini Tower Case (£64.98 @ Novatech) Power Supply: Corsair CX 600W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply (£57.67 @ Dabs) Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer (£13.18 @ Scan.co.uk) Operating System: Windows 8 Professional Student (£49.99 @ Microsoft) Total: £1026.55 The one thing i am still a little inconclusive about is my monitor. I would love to get the Dell U2713HM but it is over my budget which is £200-£300. I am just not sure if it worth spending that extra money to get a 1440p monitor. My other, more realistic option, is to get the Dell U2414h or P2414h. But i am still unsure so would appreciate any help deciding on a monitor. Cheers
  6. Hi all, I'm in the midst of uninstalling some software from my main hardisk. I noticed Autodesk DirectConnect 2013 and DirectConnect 2015 are currently taking up 1.05GB of hardisk space each. Does anyone know if it's safe to uninstall these softwares?
  7. Hi, I want to build a machine for CAD, video editing and rendering programs such as- Autodesk Alias, Autodesk 3ds max Solidworks Rhino Keyshot Maxwell Octane Blender Maya Adobe After effects Adobe Photoshop Adobe Premier Pro Google Sketchup I am split between the Firepro w5000 and the GTX 770 for my GPU so would much appreciate any opinions as to which one i should get, or any suggestions for another GPU in the £300-£350 price range. This is the rest of my build- CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1230 V3 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler Motherboard: ASRock H87M Pro4 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard Memory: Kingston XMP Blu Red Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Disk Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link TL-WN851ND 802.11b/g/n PCI Wi-Fi Adapter Case: Fractal Design Arc Mini R2 MicroATX Mini Tower Case Power Supply: Corsair CX 600W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer Operating System: Windows 8 Professional Student Any opinions on the build would also be much appreciated. 8. Hi, I am planning to build a PC intended for use with Adobe Premier Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Autodesk Autocad, 3Ds max, Maya, Keyshot, Solidworks and the like. I'm not a professional but do video editing, animation and 3D design mostly as a hobby at the moment, but I am looking to study 3D design at university next year so will need a good computer to cope with the stresses of the various CAD softwares. The is the Build so far- CPU Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core CPU Cooler Noctua NH-D14 65.0 CFM Motherboard Asus Z87-PRO ATX LGA1150 Memory Patriot Viper 3 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Storage Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" SSD Case Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Power Supply Corsair 750W ATX12V / EPS12V Optical Drive Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) I am stuck on the GPU front, I have basically narrowed it down to the K2000 or a W5000 or a GTX 780 or a R9 290 but i am just unsure about which one would be the best for what i am wanting to do, could you give me any suggestions/advice on these cards? I am also thinking about going with x79 platform with the 4930k processor (if i can make my budget stretch that far!) how much do you think i would benefit from this over the z87 platform? Is it worth the extra money? Also if i could make my budget stretch to getting a K4000 which of the following options do you think would be the best 1. Get a K4000 but stick with the z87 platform or 2. Go a with the 4930k processor but get a GPU which isn't as good such as the ones above? Also any advice on any of the components in the build as it stands would be very much appreciated as well. Many Thanks
