  1. In my office we usually work with 3DSmax + vray and now want to migrate to Sketchup+vray. is there a way to export the settings? I know how to export the RPS but not how to import it to SU. Thanks!
  2. Hi all, I do not work with real world scale in 3ds max, and therefore prefer if my bitmaps by default were loaded with the "use real-world scale" off. Also, I often change the filtering to "none". If none could be set as default would be great as well(its a pain to change those settings manually for every bitmap e.g. using multitexture!). My problem is then, how do I change those settings so 3ds max loads my bitmaps with the settings I prefer? I have been googling and looking at forums etc, but I haven't managed to find anything regarding this topic. Does anyone know how to change those settings, or someone has a work-around? I'm right now working with 3ds max design 2016. Thanks! Sonny
  3. Hi I have been working on an exterior visualization that I've run into some problems with. General information about the scene: Revit model - imported into 3Ds Max rendered in V-Ray 3.40 V-ray settings posted Raw render posted (7000 x 4950px) Rendered on a Lenovo W530 Core i7, with 16 Gb Ram, NVIDIA Quadro K2000M My problem consists of two things. Noise/blurry image and render time. The render-time for the image were 21,5 hours. This is way too much for this kind of render. Also i think it is lacking sharpness in the textures. I hope some of you could help me, by taking a look at my posted render settings. Input is much appriciated. Hasse
  4. Hello, I discovered last week that Facebook have just introduced 360 photographs. It turns out that it's really easy to upload your cg image but I had to visit a couple of different websites to check the settings so I've consolidated them into a little tutorial for anyone who's interested - http://www.whitakerstudio.co.uk/blog/2016/6/15/facebook-360-photographs-tutorial Hope you enjoy and look forward to seeing your images on Facebook! 5. Hi guys, i think that when we are speaking about animation with Vray, there's so much confusion and misunderstandings through the web. The workflow seems so different for each "teacher", both in the forums, youtube, vimeo. Usually the threads/video are a little out of date and you wonder if Vlado invented some new tricks to speed up animations and quality. Chaos Group guide let everybody understand which is the problem with animations, how GI works etc etc. But most of the time this is not sufficient to free your frames from the evil bounds of flickering. By the way, Youtube and Vimeo are full of outstanding flickering free Archviz Animation made with 3DS + Vray. So I write this post with the ambition to help myself and others castaways to understand if there's a basic workflow for animations, by sharing yours. It would be really really nice and useful if each one of you could post: 1) an animation/link made with 3DS+Vray 2) settings for the prepasses and final animation. 3) resolution and (if possible) the time for each frame 4) (less important but why not) If you rented a render farm and the cost of the entire animation. I know that there are different workflows if you have a moving camera with still objects, or both moving or fixed camera with moving object. It's not important, just share your workflow based on these type of animation. I know it may sound pretentious and there are plenty of possibilities that i'm wasting my time writing this. I hope not, because really there isn't so much informations about animation settings and this forum is full of skilled CG Architects. Shall we prepass Light Cache or Directly the Irradiance Map? Is it important to check "Don't Render the FInal image" on Global Settings during prepasses? Does the noise threshold affect flickering together with GI? Does light/reflections subdivisions affect flickering together with GI? Too much questions and sometimes you don't have the time to wait to see differences unchecking or not an option, especially if you work alone. I hope to read soon yours experiences and workflows. For the people who are starting now with animations, check this link to the Chaos Group Guide, really useful, but doing what they say, i didn't get optimal results. http://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/VRAY3/Rendering+an+Animation+with+Moving+Objects+II Thanks!
  6. Dear readers, recently I started learning 3d development (3ds Max, ZBrush et cetera). I am totally in love with it but at the moment I a having trouble getting my renders more realistic. I watched some tutorials on YouTube, and even though I do exactly the same as they do, my renders always come out a lot darker then the ones in the tutorials. Anyways, I found some decent settings which do work quite nicely except that my renders are really, really fake and still a bit dark. The "fake" part is most likely because my materials, I still need to learn to work with VRay Materials as I have been using Mental Ray until recently but what I would need your help with is the lightning part. I downloaded a scene, and added light to it. It looks (in my opinion) very realistic and just super awesome! but when I make my own model, it is to dark and it looks very fake. Can anyone tell me why this is (except for poor material use) and how I can fix this? if I know how to fix it, I know what to look for in the future The one with the good results (scene downloaded, lights by me): The one with the bad results (scene made by me): Max 2014 file (good one): http://www.filedropper.com/light2010 Max 2014 file (bad one): http://www.filedropper.com/vrayinteriorlightingtest_1 I really hope you guys can help me out, as I am struggeling with this problem for a week now Best regards, Angelo P.S. His walls and everything is WHITE... my material is white to but they turn out much warmer, yellow-ish... huh?
  7. I'm quite new with v-ray so I want to know which are the best settings for drafts render? My last draft render took 30 minutes, 640x480px. I'm using a HDRI map in a V-ray Dome light. I have to mention that i have a lot of glass, but the model is quite simple. I tried to get the settings as low as possible. I attached my v-ray settings. My specs: i7 - 2.7GHz, 2 cores, 4 threads. Video - 2GB. RAM - 8GB DDR.
  8. Hello, I will try make it short. I'm quite new to CG and this is pretty much my first interior scene (I did one before but it was from tutorial). This is my scene (with override VrayMtl and little excludes): http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e251/LordMarcos/4_help2_zps852a2ca2.png~original I've highlighted some regions where I got problems. Viewport screen: http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e251/LordMarcos/scene2_zps0730886a.png~original The scene was rendered with those settings (probably production settings): http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e251/LordMarcos/settings2_zpsc80514cf.png~original Settings looks good ? In general, my issues are: Don't really know what are the best render settings for my scene, I want to make "wall pictures" quite visible and artifacts free, I want to avoid any other artifacts, blotches or dirty walls in the scene... I really want to make those wall pictures to look good, this is my main problem that blocks me from final rendering. The left one got some weird "light spots" and the right picture detail visibility is quite low. The medium one, in the middle seems to look fine, but I'm not 100% sure. Glass material seems to be alright... just simple almost black diffuse at 1, with reflect on 150 - 180 and almost pure white refract, IOR set to 1.45. And I got little "light leaks" (?) in one of my shelfs. I'm sure that there is no gaps, boards are pretty much intercepting each other at some point. Any feedback about the bedroom will be more than appreciated. I got my all material ready, but override is good idea for light testing, yes ? P.S: My English is not perfect, sorry. But I'm doing my best. Thank You!
  9. Good day guys..... Am a beginner in VRay and rendering an interior scene of apartment using Vray Physical camera and Lights, can anyone suggest me the best settings of Vray Camera for interior scene where rooms are small and camera need to be animated........i have set my film gate to 50, and focal length to 36 but the scene looks like stretched, how can i correct it....., do i need to make vertical shift in Vray Camera...or should i use fisheye camera...am confused....please need suggestions...... Thankyou...... Cheers......
  10. Hello, I made an interior scene of a bedroom. For 2 days long i had no problems. Since this morning for some kind of reason, i have no idea why this happens.. But Ive got green spots on my floor, and at most edges its also very colorful, ( see the image. Please help me Regards, Kasparovic
  11. Using VRay for SU v.01.05.30 (we had to revert back for some reason known only to our IT dept) I'm brand new to VRay, and totally appreciate that I'm only going to fully get my answers through experience. However, I thought this might be a useful question. I've looked at many threads that discuss interior lighting settings. Multiple experts seem to prefer wildly different settings for exactly the same scene, and they all seem to work, because there appear to be many settings that affect brightness: ISO Shutter Speed F-number GI (sky, in my case) Multiplier GI Texture Common (Sky) Multiplier GI Texture General Intensity Multiplier (I think this is another sun multiplier, but it's unclear) Background Multiplier Background Texture Common (Bitmap) Multiplier GI Contrast Base? I'm probably forgetting a few, or not sure what all the setting are that I'm using. But in general, it seems that increasing the ISO and decreasing the shutter speed, for example, might balance eachother out and give you very similar, if not exactly the same, output. What I'm hoping to find is the magic variables that allow me to decrease the contrast between the daylight coming into the room and the ambient lighting inside the room. I see a lot of people put hidden rectangular lights on the windows, but I was hoping to find a setting that doesn't mean adding this construction. To put it another way, I want to brighten the interior of the room without changing the sunlight intensity directly hitting the floor, or keep the interior brightness and decrease the sunlight intensity directly hitting the floor. Either way, because I have so many ways to easily change the brightness of everything. Thanks in advance.
  12. Tutorial here... http://www.jamesshaw.co.nz/blog/?p=138 The above link is what we’ve (http://www.squintopera.com) have found works for rendering settings using vray in a quick tutorial/ list. There are many stories on various forums on what makes a difference, but I hope these settings will get people started and able to use vray for production output; which are primarily what these settings are for. However if you need more information as always visit the chaos forums. (http://www.chaosgroup.com/forums/vbulletin/). There are 2 other key methods, adaptive and using pure brute force for animation passes which I’m hoping to put in another post… watch this space and I’ll put a link to it when I get 5mins off the work computer! Tutorial here... http://www.jamesshaw.co.nz/blog/?p=138
  13. Hi all. Im doing an interiour animation using vray sun and physical camera. I can't get rid of noise in my material, also in stills. I can get rid of it but only by really increasing the subdivs extremely. My settings are as follows: -image sampler: adaptive dmc, mitchel-netravali min 6 max 8 subs -bumped up my very basic vray material to 20 subs. -using brute force as primary with 40 subs (would like to lower this) -using light cace as secondary with 1000 subs, sample size 0.002, 4 passes. -Indirect illu is on and refractive is ticked. - dmc sampler has noise treshold set to 0.001 min samples 12 and global sudivs multiplier set to 1 (i dont want to increase this one due to render time) -in the light settings i have increased the suns diffuse subs to a 1000 to no apparent effect. I get an ok'ish result with these settings but the render time is above 2 hours on a farily decent machine. my frame size is 1024*576 pixels There is no direct light on the objects with the noise (could this be an issue?) My sun settings is down to 0,003 is this perhaps too low? My camera has the f-number at 4, shutter at 30 and the iso is at 1600, the scene looks well lit. All in all it seems strange to me, I have tried to swap the sun with a direct light and a normal camera but the result is the same. Is the only way foward to increase the subs? has something in the scene gone corrupt? or do i have to tweek some more on the dials? if the latter any pointers would be sincearly appriciated thanks
