  1. Hi everyone, I've been playing around with some difference scattering techniques (I still have a ways to go) but I wanted to see what you all thought. I'm working on some landscape scenes and am using high poly plant models as well as vray fur - what workflows seem to work the best, fastest? Would love to hear some different viewpoints The main ways I have seen thus far: - Partical Flow - Compound Object Scatter - Multiscatter (icube) - Scatter plugin (SiNi) - Forest Pack (itoo)
  2. I can't figure out what is causing the issue here. The mesh from certain angles and in relation to certain objects becomes see through. If I take a render, it comes out fine, but the problem persists when I export to Unity. Any help would be much appreciated.
  3. Hello all, I've been working on some interior/exterior renderings of a house using Vray for 3DS Max 2017 and wanted to know what steps I can take to minimize the file sizes, which are about 400mb. The building file is an .fbx linked from Revit 2017 and the site file is linked as a .dwg from Rhino 5. I've saved the different views as separate files (so exterior, bathroom, kitchen only contain the objects they need), however the high polycount props are still huge; appliances, furniture and trees esp. I've saved these objects out and Xrefed them and have also run Garbage Collection. While my file size has reduced from 500>400mb, I feel that there are other/different steps I could take to optimize the scenes further. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!
  4. Hello! I have been rendering an interior scene with no issues until only recently. The Vray Frame Buffer is pure white (unless I change the Global EV, in which case its grey or black) and takes about 5-8 seconds to speed through all tasks and passes. I've tried other cameras and turning off all of the lights in the scene to no avail. Please let me know if you have any ideas! Thanks
  5. Hello, I'm rendering an animation with DR in 3DS+Vray of 300 frames. I calculate before the LC and the IM and then I run the final render process through the DR. Vray starts rendering alright the first 20/30 frames but after that, the DR start failing to render all the VrayProxies (I have many Proxies for trees and furniture). Basically, you will see the proxies missing in some buckets after some frames rendered perfectly. Everything is merged in scene so NO XREF scene or objects. Once I spot the DR making a mess with the frames, I if stop the process and I just try to re-render the failing frame (without touch anything in the scene or in the settings), it cames out perfectly with no problems. do you have any idea what's going on ?????
  6. Hi guys, I'm hoping that you can help me out. I have been trying all sorts of things to improve the lighting in my interior scene but I am getting massive (and I mean massive) noise in my Global Illumination pass. After 24 hours of rendering (progressive), I have a scene that looks like the light cache calculations! My scene is huge (I am doing an entire house & environment, not just a single staged room). I have set up the primary lighting with a Peter Guthrie HDRI (so I know it is great quality), and then a VRay Sun for additional lighting information, linked to the HDRI. I have tried with both sky portals on and off but zero difference. I have turned the windows on and off incase it was a material issue, but nothing. I have ramped up the subdivs in the VRay Dome Light to 128 which has destroyed my render times, but also with no clear advantage. Lighting pass, specular, reflections etc... all nice and clean. Only GI that is a disaster! Not sure what to do or what is wrong. I would really appreciate your help! I'm using Vray 3.60 on 3ds Max 2017. My PC is Windows 10, 2x 3Gb GTX 780 GPU's, Intel i7-8720K 3.6Ghz processor, and 3Gb DDR4-2100 RAM.

  8. HI, I NEED HELP, IF ANYONE CAN CONVERT A 3DS MAX FILE WHICH I CREATED IN 3DSMAX 2017 AND SAVE IT IN LOWER VERSION (2014-2016), I COULD DO IT MYSELF, BUT HERE I AM NOT USING LATEST VERSION OF MAX, FILE SIZE IS 2.5 MB ONLY, BELOW IS THE LINK https://we.tl/KVt8491UHb AND I NEED IT ASAP, THANKS IN ADVANCE.
  9. Hi, I rendered a sequence for 200 frames. First, I rendered the GI (IRR and LC) separately. Afterwards, I assigned these files for my final render. Eventually, everything went fine, but I saw there was a darker area in the top right of my color pass. (you can see the hard line on the white/red metal frame) If I looked to the IRR map with the IRRviewer, you can also see a darker area in the top right. Does anyone had this problem too? Sincerely, Sam
  10. Hi, I rendered a sequence, first the GI separately (IRR and LC) and afterwards the final render with the IRR and LC files loaded. Everything worked perfect, except that you can see a darker area in the color passes on my objects (right top corner, you can see the hard line on the white/red steel frame). First, I thought it was an object that this, but when I render just one frame, I don't have the problem. If a take a look to the IRR map, you can see the darker area also. Does anyone know how this could happen?
  11. Hi all, I have just started using 3DS max and Vray. Previously I've used revit and Vray which although slightly easier won't really give ultra realistic results which is what striving to achieve. Anyway I have just started to learn the basics and I am wondering what courses, tutorials, materials, videos and guides help you get better at the software? Currently I'm using Adam Zollinger's 3DS Max and Vray course on Udemy but some parts are a little outdated. And also I prefer to use cad plans to get more accurate models. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  12. 3ds max 2017 - Vray 3.40.03 Render Problem, I Attach Image Rendering image (Pass 22) - - why ?? Rendering Time Also Increase...Why ?? Any Solution Plzzzz.....
  13. Hello, This is my first foray into maxscript, and I have nearly achieved what I'm after. If only I could do this one simple thing! Any help would be much appreciated. I've written a short script that creates a particle system and a rectangular poly. I then want to bind the newly created PF_Source to the newly created poly with a Particle Skinner. The end result will be a script that emits sheets of paper every n frames that will then swirl around my scene. Here is the portion of script for creating the rectangular poly and it all works, except the bit that tries to attach/define the Particle_Flow_Systems Rectangle length:280 width:210 cornerRadius:0 pos:position isSelected:on $.name = "Paper" + (progressString) modPanel.addModToSelection (Garment_Maker ()) ui:on $.modifiers[#Garment_Maker].density = 0.02 macros.run "Modifier Stack" "Convert_to_Poly" modPanel.addModToSelection (Particle_Skinner ()) ui:on $.modifiers[#Particle_Skinner].Particle_Flow_Systems = #("pFlow" + (progressString)) $.modifiers[#Particle_Skinner].activateSkinning() modPanel.addModToSelection (TurboSmooth ()) ui:on modPanel.addModToSelection (UVWMap ()) ui:on $.modifiers[#UVW_Map].realWorldMapSize = off Like I say, this is my first go at maxscript so I'm still learning how the syntax works etc which will hopefully explain any howling errors. Thanks in advance, James
  14. Hey Guys, I have a problem in my renders. I have used mesh vray light for the cove light but it is giving out an uneven tone near the AC Grill in the scene. Can you help me to solve this problem? I am using 3ds max 2017 - with vray sincfilter and irradiancemap as primary bounces, light cache as secondary bounces
