  1. Hello, could you please tell me why the moving gizmo is flickering on mouse-over as you can see in the following video? https://youtu.be/xXRoZY9Klr4 This happens only when I work with 4 quads viewport. When I switch to Maximize Viewport Toggle is fine. Thanks
  2. Our Terrain plugin for 3DS Max which allows you to generate landscapes from real world elevation data in a couple of clicks has been updated to support Max 2024. The plugin makes use of DEM data that is available freely on-line but instead of you having to locate the right DEM file for your needs, patching them together and importing the data manually our plugin allows you to directly set a latitude and longitude coordinate and the plugin will automatically locate the right data and import it into 3DS Max and generate a mesh to your desired level of detail. You are free to drag the location around and zoom in or out and the plugin will fetch any new data it needs and rebuild the mesh automatically. The data will be stored on your system so future alterations will not require data to be re downloaded. The elevation data is sampled at 90m intervals and also for the US you can select 30m interval data for even more accurate terrains. The plugin allows you to color your mesh based on height with a user customizable color table. The sea level can be changed and you have the option to cap the mesh. At any time you can change the mesh density and you can select to use a given vertex budget or set the distance to use between vertices etc. Another major feature of the plugin is the ability to use Google Earth to generate textures for your terrains (you should have Google Earth Pro if you plan on using the images for commercial use). You can tell the plugin the resolution of the texture you want to apply to your terrain mesh and it will automatically produce the texture for you. The plugin is currently on sale at 50% off as well. You can more information on our Website. Videos showing the plugin in action.
  3. Hello, Has anyone got any good advice/techniques/plugin suggestions on how to create this chalk pit wall around a site. I'm not sure whether its worth modelling it when they may be a plugin that could create something for me? I have attached an image of the chalk pit wall. Thanks in advance Michael
  4. Hi there, This is going to be quite hard to explain so sorry if you dont understand it. I have 2 shapes one which is a curve and one which is more of a box shape. (Shown in the image) Its meant for a bay window which is shown in another image attached. They need to be joined together but smoothly but every way i have so far i haven't manage too. Is there an easy to model them so they blend one another so they create one shape. Many thanks Michael
  5. Hi guys!!! My old monitor Dell u2312 gave up on me. I am in search of new monitor. The work is related to 3D-Modelling and Rendering. Mainly used softwares are: 1) Zbrush 2) Autodesk Maya 3) Adobe Photoshop. My main criteria are longevity and color quality. I am thinking of going with Dell u2415, the next version of my old monitor. 1) How will it be? 2) Any better options? Thanks in advance.
  6. When I add a symmetry modifier and try to rotate the mirror plane, it skews and distorts any object. The direction arrows are no longer perpendicular to the mirror plane…any idea what is happening and how to fix it? skewed mirror problem.zip

  8. Hello guys, Hope you all are doing fine, well ive got stuck in this part of my modelling where i need to create decorative elements on the wall. Ive also attached few reference images for better understanding. So i have a closed boundary i.e - a Rectangle. Now i want the decorative elements over the rectangle and should look realistic I would be much happy if someone could help me out.
  9. I am an architect who wants to develop my portfolio with some nice renderings. I am not sure which software to get. I use a PC and AutoCAD. I used 3d studio many years ago at uni but its so expensive. I know there are lots of different options but my problem is that having not used any of them I don't know where to start and in don't have alot of time to investigate each and every one of them. Google sketch up is quite cheap but as far as i know its rendering is limited. I want to produce some photographic 'realistic' resolution Images. Would appreciate some firm guidance. Thanks.

  11. Hi all. I've been working with 3D as a hobby for about 13 years and 3D printing for about 5. I'm stuck on something and I was hoping the community might be able to shed some light for me. I design tie bars that I post to my shop of Shapeways (a 3D printing service) and I would like to have an accurate (or as accurate as possible) representation of my models without having to purchase and photograph each and every one. For the models that are printed at a high fidelity (e.g. accuracy of 0.1 mm) the model renders are a very close approximation. However, for those that are printed at a lower fidelity (e.g. accuracy of 1 to 3 mm) the models are never going to come out looking like they do in the render. The detail is far too precise. If you look at one of my tie bars, you'll see what I mean. This ceramic cup exemplifies it even more. What I would like to do would be to render them at a lower accuracy (I know that makes little sense). I've been racking my brain as to how to accomplish it but I haven't been able to come up with anything satisfactory. A simple smoothing operation won't work, especially for more complex models. I've tried loading them into Z-Brush and softening them manually which sort of works but isn't really an ideal solution. Anywho, I work in Maya and Maxwell Render. If anyone knows any way I could accomplish this, I would really appreciate a push in the right direction. Thanks in advance
  12. There is quite a varied array of opinion about which is the best 3d modelling software and which is the best rendering software. It's hard to know what experience a lot of this opinion is based on. I work for a company that is interested in stepping up its architectural rendering game. To date we've used vectorworks for 2d drawing, sketchup for 3d modelling, and cinema 4d for rendering. It's a convoluted work flow and the model translation between sketchup and cinema leaves something to be desired.. We are working on Macs but are open to the idea of having a PC machine if it'll be better for our purposes. Im curious if anyone has an idea of a good setup for the range of experience we have and our desire to have high quality architectural rendering? Totally open to steeper learning curves and platform type. Many thanks!
  13. Hay all! Can anyone please help me with a modelling problem? I'm using 3dsMax to model, and I have an highpoly model of a bag that I want to hang in a closet, but I want to look at it and "feel" the gravity. I've tried to use cloth simulator but it just doesn't work with such a heavy poly. Does anyone have an idea how to go around this problem? Is there any max plugin that can help me? Thankx in advance.

Studio/Institution: Pixeles Studios Graficos Client: Edgardo Bautista Genre: Residential Interior Software: 3D Studio Max 2011 & Vray SP5 Website: http://www.edgarbaut.co.cc Description: Hello, This time I'll post some say with any home interior I did a while ago, the houses are super simple but as I always say I'm interested in rendering quality, I hope you like your critics are welcome ...
  15. hi! my name is ricardo and i've been peeping cgarchitect from time to time. now i have something that i would like to ask. i'm trying to understand the pros and cons of using different software to start modelling up from the blueprints/cad designs. usually i use autocad to build the 3d model up and then export to render in another one like c4d. but sometimes i notice that there may be another way/software to build the 3d model that would benefit time execution. when i talk about 3d modelling i'm talking about modelling houses, but also terrains, roads, sidewalks. would you recommend any thread in this subject or any reading or any workflow? thank you!
