  1. In his latest tutorial, Jonas Noell shows a very interesting technique to create a realistic, procedural sponge material using V-Ray. https://www.cgarchitect.com/features/articles/cb724542-procedural-sponge-material-with-v-ray
  2. I get a weird foggy eye when rendered in low resolution. Take a look at the screenshots provided (high/low resolution), how would you fix those reflections/refractions in the eye, so it does not look foggy? First eye layer (cornea) simple glass material. Rest is split between iris, pupil and sclera. Fine: Wrong:
  3. Hi I'm posting an image of a material I need created in vray. I've tried applying a bump map and a normal map but it's not the same. Any direction would be highly appreciated! Thanks
  4. This might be the most simple fix but I just cant think what it is, in 3ds max with Vray. The horizon is visible in the box when I render it out, while I want it to be translucent as it is in the scene. Best fix Ive got is making a white plane behind thats invisible to the camera, but that still doesnt make it translucent
  5. Hello everyone, I'm under an immense animation deadline and cannot figure out how to make the standard 3ds max populate people render as flat white, preferably semi-transparent. Does anyone know how to do this? I get the right effect using vraymtlwrapper but I can't change it from black to white or add any transparency? If I just add refraction to the standard vray material then you see through the person but you see they're internals as well, making them look like they're made out of glass. I just want a flat, 2d white matte look to them. Any ideas - I'm desperate! thanks Jonty
  6. when I import SKP in 3DS max, material are being converted in Arch & Design. I want all material in vary material. How can i get it?? ( I have all ready assign my renderer in Vray.)
  7. Hi, just few words to present my new vray plugin: VRayVegetalMtl is a material for Vray under 3DS Max, which can reproduce translucency effects in foliage. All parameters are on one panel, and the approach is simpler than the VRay2SidedMtl. Also this plugin is able to generate translucency while maintaining a good level of contrast. To see: Video demonstration and documentation on the blog. http://autourdesimages.com/vrayvegetalmtl-en
  8. Does anyone know a good site to buy a rock wall texture? We are working on a project in a ski resort and they need a very specific rock texture. We are having a hard time heading the correct texture. Thank you in advance for the help. Please remove if this is not the correct place to publish this. Thanks
  9. Hello guys... I'm new here and i wonder if anyone could help my problem on the vray refraction alpha. So here is what happen, I got a scene in 3ds max with glass and water material on it, I planned to do the compositing later on by saving the renders into seperate elements. But I don't know somehow when I import the images on the AE later, I still get the black background from 3ds max in the water refraction. I've already searched some solutions online where I should change the Material refraction to affect "color+alpha". I've done it and it still gives me the black refraction on water. Also I found a site that says change refraction material to affect "all channels" to get the refractions right. And yess I still get this problem... So I wonder what's wrong in my material setup and if anyone can suggest anything, I would appreciate it a lot http://imgur.com/h4eNnpJ http://imgur.com/yGxNC1Q Thanks
  10. We are creating a lot of fabric textures, and usually we take photos or scan them, sometimes use Forest to replicate the texture, but we need something that is easier on the machines (than Forest) and faster/gives better results than scanning/taking photos (we used a simple scanner, not laser or anything special and a high end DSLR). I tried Substance Designer, but it is very hard to create something that could be used as a template and modified if needed. What ideas come to your mind, which software could we try or use to be able to create very high detail fabrics (and/or to create templates for fabric materials)? Im using Railclone now, seeing what can I do, then later creating the maps from the model. Currently we are using 3ds max 2016 and Corona. Budget isn't really a problem, so if you have any ideas, Im happy to hear it, even if its a bit unusual. Thank you!
  11. Hello! I have a need for an Acrylic material and downloaded one. It is a VrayMat, a Clear Blue Acrylic. For the Life of me, I can't change the Blue to any other color! Herevis the .mat file: https://www.sendspace.com/file/xrjxom It is a simple clear blue material. The Diffuse entry is white and there are no maps? This is the strangest problem I have ever had... THANK YOU!
  12. I have this unfarmiliar problem with all later version. vray 3.2 - vray 3.3 and vray 3.4 Vray 3.02 works fine but cant be used with some renderfarms I have a nvidia GTX 980 (ForceWare 368.81) Intel processor Core i7 5960X Gigabyte X99-Gaming 5P Windows 10 x64 I have reinstalled nvidia drivers. ( no result) Deleted nvidia drivers. max starts with default settings. (no-result) Installed max 2014- 2015 and 2016 but all vray version after 3.02 gives the same result. Someone familiar with this? Best regards Jurell
  13. Dear anyone, I'm new to 3ds max and I need help rendering a reflective material. I need to render a building that has a glass facade that is made up of blue tinted glass and blue non-translucent reflective panels. I've got all my other materials pretty ok, except for the most important one of course. I seem to be able to make the panel as reflective as I need it, but as soon as I do that, i start loosing the blue color. Hopefully someone can help me/ explain me how to set this up properly. It should look somewhat like blue reflective sunglasses. I'll also add a picture from an existing building that has the same material as a facade. Thank you in advance!!!
  14. Hi, I'm a new user of vray for max (architect trainee). And for my new job I have to make some renderings of a building that has a facade that is covered in blue very reflective non-translucent glass combined with blue reflective coated blue tinted glass. I managed to get almost everything in the scene ok, but I'm having a rough time with the facade materials. If someone could help me (give instructions) set up the material for the non-translucent panels, I would be very happy! On this link you can find a link to a picture of the material I need to mimic, It's going to be exactly that, because it's going to be from the same manufacturer. http://www.teugels.eu/images/ref/bluetowers/bluetowers1.jpg Thanks in advance! Mattias
  15. Good Morning All! I am working on a 3D Panorama for Oculus in V-Ray and while that's all fancy and well, I am having what I believe to be some very basic problems with a french door's glass reflection. As you can see from the attached files, there is a weird point where the reflections follow a curved path and provide and mirror like reflection of the inside. You can also see distortion that creates a visible gap between the windows mullions that simply is not that big. The window is a single cube (not a plane but a 3D object)...I am using a falloff for the reflection map and you can see all my settings. I am sure this is some stupid facepalm moment when someone points out an obvious error, but for the life of me I cannot seem to solve it...I have spent way too long trying to resolve it and now it's time to ask the forum Please help! Thank you so much
  16. I want to create my own shader ball, but I dont know which lights and setup would be the best. Im using an HDRI, but I dont know if I should add another (for e.g. rectangular directional) light for the reflection to be bigger (but then it becomes over saturated), OR should I create a studio setup? What is the best setup/lighting for a shader ball scene? It would be used mostly for interior shots/material testing I'm using Corona 1.3 and Max 2016 (I also have V-Ray 3.3, but i need to use Corona). Thank you!
  17. Hi guys, it's been quite a while since I've posted here. I've recently created a fairly simple wood material in which I'd like to have your opinions about it and maybe giving me few tips to improve its overall look. Cheers!
  18. Hey guys Introducing myself, I'm Andy from Indonesia. I learn Autocad and 3dsmax about 3-4 years ago. My rendering now is quite good, thank to all tips and tutorial (sorry for my bad English) This is my first post here I have some problem in my rendering and need your help Look at the pictures above, I rendered both scene with same camera setting, same IES setting, but why the pictures with dark material looks different. The IES looks so weak even it have same Intensity. In real world, dark material wont affect the VrayIES intensity, right? Wall : Vraymtl, Bitmap on Diffuse Maps GI Environment : on, multiplier 1 VrayIES : Power 15.000, all setting is ticked. VrayCamera : Shutter 20, ISO 250, only Exposure ticked The difference between the pictures above is reflection. As you can see, VrayIES shape is not visible in top pictures, while the bottom picture the IES shape is visible. Top picture : VrayMtl, reflection color 255,255,255 Bottom picture : VrayMtl, reflection color 180,180,180 My question is, in real world, do the light visible on mirror ? Render Setup : Exponential, Primary : Irrandiance map Second : Light Cache Is there anything I need to tick or untick ? Correct my material setting if you think im doing it wrong. Im really sorry for my bad English, you may have some problem to understand what I mean. But thanks you if you want to help me! Check out my current best rendering : http://websta.me/n/andy_zhanq
  19. Studio/Institution: Lumina architecture Client: SON Genre: Office Interior Software: Rhino, 3ds Max vray, PS Description: Hi! I need some suggestion and critique about this office interior. Softwer used, Rhion for 3d, 3ds Max Vray and PS. Thanks!
  20. Hi, I've got problem with showing materials in viewport. When I assign material to object and tick "Show shaded material in Viewport" there's 1-3 second lag, and it's bigger when material is more complicated. Problem occurs when I add maps like "Checker", "Mix", "Gradient", "Composite" etc. It's not proably the fault of GPU because the problem also occurs when I switched to iGPU. Also, I've tried to change "Display driver" to other like DirectX or OpenGL, and the lag problem disappear. So the problem exist only with Nitrous (D9, D11 and Software) and it's not depend from GPU. Is there a solution to this problem? 3ds max 2014 Student Version i7-3770K, Geforce GTX660 Ti
  21. I hope some pro can help me out here. Here is my situation. I import sketchup model into Max2014 with all the material from sketchup. I want to replace these materials with Vray materials. This is what I am doing now, select sketchup material and use "select objects by material", then apply Vray material. This method works fine but it won't work when an object have multiple materials. Or I can just change the sketchup material to Vray material manually in Material Editor. But it won't work if I want to use the same Vray material to replace few sketchup materials. The ideal way is to just replace the sketchup material with vray material with some sort of script. Or anyone have a better method to do this? Cheers.
  22. idk what it is with my copy of max, or maybe it's my pc, but im having a some issues with buttons. one's dealing with the IK panel in the Hierarchy tab, but the one im referring to now and is holding me back is the "Choose Morph Object" button in the "Morpher Basic Parameters" rollout in the Morpher material. i'll click it and it'll highlight but when i select any object with an Editable Mesh and Morpher modifier in the stack, it just selects the object, not bringing up the morpher bind window. i referenced the steps from the 3ds max help page, http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2015/ENU/3DSMax/files/GUID-9E4C8FF9-F981-4882-BAFB-D241C4FC57EF-htm.html. this is really holding me back, when im already falling back on time. help=GREATLY APPRECIATED!

  24. Scene rendered with Vray using the material RayFire Asperity Mtl, you can see the detalization this parametric multitexture provides.
  25. Hi, im having some strange grain/noice in my rendering & the brick material is reflecting the surrounding (wich it should not). It has a fresnel reflection map, and i tried to lower the reflection intensity with no result. It is also having a bumpmap. Can i make the material completly matte, not reflecting any colours....? Best regards: Anders
