  1. i guys, i’m unable to match vray beauty with passes(back to beauty vray). Tried in photoshop and nuke. getting color change with final rendered image. asses = Lighting+gi+reflection+refraction+specular. Settings color mapping : Intensity Exponential and color mapping only, no gamma
  2. Hi, I'm using V-ray 2.0 for Maya 2012. I'm rendering an interior scene, and I'm wondering if I'm double gamma correcting my render? When I apply sRGB in the Vray frame buffer, or "convert to sRGB" in Maya's render view, I get a washed out image. I've gamma corrected (with gamma correction utility) all my textures, but the consensus that I'm reading says that sRGB must still be enabled to render proper results. Below are my settings. Do I really need to enable sRGB if I've already gamma corrected my materials, and I'm rendering with Gamma 2.2? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

  4. Hi everyone! This is, in fact, is my first post so I apologise if this is not in the right place, however, I am currently working on a project for uni to create an environment using downloaded DEM and Orthographic imagery maps of Alaska Mountains and failing that, The Teton Mountain Range in Wyoming USA. I am able to download the DEm maps with no problem using the National Map on USGS.gov but cannot get the ortho maps. So my question is, does anyone else know where I might be able to find these maps or even do I need to have the ortho-imagery at all? could I create the terrain with DEM and texture myself? And info and advice is greatly appreciated and I'm using MAYA 2017 for modelling.
  5. Hi all, just wondering why the industry tends to lean towards 3DS Max so much more than Maya for arch vis? I know that at the end of the day its your ability and not the software which achieves the results, but are there some more specific features that 3DS Max has which gives it a competitive edge?
  6. Hi, I posted this elsewhere but did not get an answer so far. Maybe here somebody will know an answer. So, apologies for the cut/paste. Maybe V-Ray matte or Primary Visibility are not the answer. So far I tried Primary Visibility, Hold Out, and V-Ray Matte options but none seem to give the desired effect. See pictures attached. Let's say I want to render a scene with a tree. It's a dense poly tree, it takes a while. I am rendering these passes: diffuse rawLight multiMatte - The tree needs to be invisible in diffuse, but I need to see the objects in front of- and behind it (V-Ray Matte cuts to background, so I cannot see what is behind the tree). - Also visible in rawLight, but still cast shadows, and still see the rawLight of the stuff behind it (same as above). So far this is achievable with Primary Visibility off. But I also need it to appear in multiMatte. With Primary Visibility off, it disappears from the multimatte/ID, which is fair enough. V-Ray matte works, but as above it doesn't work with the rest of the scene. Is there a way to make this work? So far I am using render layers to separate the scene - one layer for everything (beauty, diffuse, rawLight...), and one layer just for the matte. This works but doubles my render time (V-Ray will sample my geometry even with a surfaceShader material). The scene itself goes from 1 minute to 2 minutes in render time per frame, but over 200 frames it adds up. I need to render it a lot back and forth to test lighting setups, so it kinda matters. But anyway it just seems like such an obvious thing I want to know if it's possible. Thanks Example (instead of tree please meet mr cube):
  7. Hello guys, I have a GPU rendering based PC and i found an limitation. If I try two simply mirrors and Light between them to achieve something like "infinity mirror" i will get only 3 reflections through GPU, I tried to found something like reflection subdivs, but in CUDA mode i cannot check to use local subdivs, is there another way to increase number of reflections? If i tried to render same scene in CPU (it is not solving my problem, in the real case it will take too much render time, as I said i need GPU (CUDA)), the reflection is real. Bellow you can see what I mean: http://imgur.com/qkKSHtm - Scene http://imgur.com/N39oBr1 - GPU http://imgur.com/agLrj1V - CPU Thanks for your future help, Michael

I am working on this project on my free time. Just finished rendering the armchair and am currently in the process of finishing the lounge chair. I'll update this post as i build more assets.
  9. Hi! I have a massive library of .max files that I need to convert to a format that can be read by Maya. There are way too many files to go through them one by one and convert them manually, so I'm wondering if there's a way of converting multiple .max files to something like obj, fbx, ma or mb without having to go through and do it all manually? Cheers!
  10. Hi Guys, Hope you are doing good! I am looking for a steady solution to Max to Maya Conversion Have you any idea about http://www.maxtomaya.com/ Please let me know. Thanks!
  11. I would like to build my system - a 3D workstation plus a render node. Here is the configuration and I would appreciate any input. Thank you in advance. Background: I mainly use Maya for modeling and rendering (also animation). I will also use zBrush for organic modeling. I also do a lot of photo processing with Photoshop and Lightroom. I want to build a workstation and a render node because I need speed of single-CPU (for modeling, photo edting etc.) and also time saver by using a render node. My system: Approximate Purchase Date: In this Sep/Oct Budget Range: US$ 3,500-4,000 for workstation; US$ 5,000-6,000 for render node System Usage from Most to Least Important: 3D modeling, animation and rendering Are you buying a monitor: No (Already own two - One Dell UP2715K 5K monitor and one 21" monitor) Do you need to buy OS: NO (have Windows 10 Pro) Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com/eBay.com/Amazon.com/Local stores Location: Hong Kong Parts Preferences: Prefer Intel, Quadro Overclocking: Yes (for workstation). 15. May i know is there an update for maya regarding ggx for brdf setting in VRaymtl? i installed vray 3 but the settings in my material for brdf only with:- -Phong -Blinn -Ward. but no GGX. Any help are appreciated.
  16. Hello, I am very new to maya and mental ray and I changed a coupe of setting and now all of my renders come out in greyscale! I have no idea why this is happening and would really appreciate some help! Thank you!

  18. Hi all, just wanted to let you know, that SLiB | Browser is now fully compatible with V-Ray. SLiB | Browser is a free Maya Plugin that provides an easy way to use SLiB | Shaders or to build up own shader libraries. It greatly improves the way to work with materials in a Maya scene. A simple interface and Preview Images of the Materials help you to quickly find what you are looking for. For download and installation help check link below. www.slib.digidim.info cheers Daniel

  20. Hellooo I am having some strange issues with the Vray RawLight render pass. This is what is looks like: As you can see it seems to be projecting the diffuse map onto the mesh for some strange reason. The small rivets and rustyness are from the texture and should not be there. This is happening to ALL my objects lately (it worked in the past, which leads me to believe it's a render setting). The only thing that should affect rawLight are the lights in the scene! Thanks in advance!
  21. Hi again I would like to render an object that has SSS. I have a diffuse map and sub surface map plugged in and my diffuse amount is set to 0. But when I render my passes, my diffuse and lighting are black and my SSS pass is full, obviously because I set diffuse to 0. So I set diffuse to 1 which makes the diffuse and lighting pass normal, but the SSS is now black. I don't want to set the number anywhere in between 0 and 1 because then either the diffuse or SSS will not be showing it's true 100% value. So my question is, how can I render a full value SSS pass while not affecting any of my other passes? Thanks!

  23. Hi, I'm supporting a team of 4 designers with i7 960 / Dual Quadro 2000 workstations that want to upgrade. Their workflow is 60% Maya 2013 + Vray, ~30% After Effects and Photoshop CS5 (and maybe 5% RealFlow). Is better performance available by mixing a K5000 and GTX Titan (to support a V-ray RT Viewport and GPU config), or with a single 12GB Quadro K6000 for this workflow? I've looked long and hard to find if these cards work with CS5 and based on no findings online would guess Adobe CS doesn't even harness CUDA acceleration til CS 5.5 or 6. Awesome forum, thanks all. Chris PS: How would access to their 8 node mini Render Farm for rendering (8 x 6-core Xeon E5 2665) bear on optimizing new single workstation hardware choices? PPS: Is RT built into V_ray now or is that an upgrade?
  24. Hi, I'm looking to build a PC used for applications such Adobe Premier Pro and After Effects, Autodesk Autocad, Maya and Showcase. I'm not a professional but do video editing, animation and 3D design mostly as a hobby at the moment but am looking to study 3D design at university next year so will need a good computer to cope with the stresses of the various CAD software. I also edit videos as a hobby and may use those skill at university next year. So I need a computer which wont let me down in these areas of work. This is the components i am thinking of puting into my PC and i was wondering if you could give me your opinion or any suggestions/advice on the build as a whole for the applications i am going to be using. CPU- intel i7 4770K CPU cooler- Noctua NH-D14 Motherboard- ASUS Z87 pro ATX Memory- Patriot Viper 3 16GB DDR3-1866 Storage- Kinston hyperX 3K 240 GB SSD and 1TB Western Digital Caviar Black 7200rpm Power supply- Corsair 550W ATX12v Case- NZXT Phantom You'll notice that I have left out the GPU that because this is were Im still unsure, I'v been looking at the Nvidia quadro K4000 or the AMD Firepro W7000 or maybe a SLI GTX 680 or the GTX 780 but i would much appreciate an opinion on any of the cards or even a alternative which I haven't listed and whether the cards are overkill for what I looking to do and I don't need to spend so much money! I am planning on overclocking my system to about 4.5 GHz using ASUS 4-way optimization process. The last thing I was wondering was how well a top spec Imac would deal with the applications I want to use? Many thanks
  25. Hello everyone, Our 3d artist works with Maya and Maxwell. Recently we bought Cinema 4d. Management would like that we do not see a difference in our renderings in Maya and Cinema 4d. Is it possible to have the same type of rendering like the image below with the physical render, for example? We have the R15 Cinema 4d visualize.
